I'm looking through braiding books on Amazon and it seems most of them are geared toward beginners. I already know how to do English, French, Dutch, waterfall, crown, etc - are there any books on doing braids that are more complicated, or better yet, DVDs?

Thanks, Long Haired Knights :-D :cheese: :pumpkin:

Cheese and jack-o-lanterns for all!

Isn't she great? And she says "anywhoodle"! There's lots of good ones on youtube. I just search for whatever style I'm looking for and I can usually find one.

Yeah I know. I'm in the same boat.:( I keep looking for new styles to learn, but find it so hard. Youtube is great, but only as long as you know the name of the braid you want to learn. I love torrin's channel. She has some amazing videos. I've actually worked my way through all the videos on the channel :o, so I love it when she puts up a new video.:D (And sorry, off-topic, but she now has a cooking section! mmmmmmm.......)

I've been doing a couple of videos myself, but I they're all styles I already know, and I can't think of new braids and such that I haven't already learned. :(
(Hijack) Incidentally I do have a beavertail braid tutorial on youtube if you want to have a go. Name's tigereyemusic over there. It was my first tutorial, so you need to scroll down a bit. (end hijack)

That book looked good, but it says 4-strand and 5-strand braids, and, I don't know about you, but I already know a decent few 4- and 5-stranders already.

We're just going to have to go braid-hunting for a bit, I think. I'll report back if I find anything good.;)

I don't actually know the 4 and 5 strand braids yet, or the herringbone, so maybe I can youtube it to learn those? I want to keep learning new stuff and not get stale with my styles :)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I can do all the standard braids, and I don't have enough hair for a braid requiring more than five strands (nor do I have enough hands ... :p). I've started just experimenting with basic braids in new styles - things like two French braids with the tails bunned, rope braiding along the nape, etc. There's also the infamous Arwen braid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNiQgOonU0s) from a deleted scene in The Two Towers. My new hair goal is to have hair long enough to do this braid :p

OMW Thank you for this link my hair is also not long enough, but I'm definitely subscribing to Loepsie's channel. It's so lovely :)

There are some books and DVDs for sale here:
http://www.braidedimage.com/Braided_Image_Hair_Braiding/Instructions.html

I would probably email her before I ordered anything, as her site has not been updated in awhile. I found the link through this website, which has quite a few braid tutorials:

http://dreamweaverbraiding.com/

A couple of books I have and like with braiding instructions are:
Braiding: Easy Styles for Everyone by Diane Carol Bailey. This one is a little odd, because the first 2/3rds of the book seems to be oriented towards laypeople, and the last 1/3 towards professional braiders. It's interesting, though.

Great Braids! The New Way to Exciting Hairstyles by Thomas Hardy. This one has a few crown styles, four-strand and herringbone braids.

Hope that helps, and happy braiding!
