Whats the big deal? Why do the seams hurt? Feel like a newbie in this area.

The thing with seams is they're very snaggy. Most plastic combs are made in moulds, and where two moulds meet, you get a tiny gap where just a little bit of plastic leaks out, and forms a seam. These are often left unfinished and rough. Feel your comb - if it's rough on your fingertips, it'll be rough on your hair - and just as you'd avoid a hairtoy that was badly finished because it'd cause breakage, most people avoid seamed combs for the same reason. It might seem only a minor thing, but with hair all damage is cumulative - using a seamed comb every day can really add up.
