It's a touch sloppy. And a bit frizzy (end of day hair :p), but I didn't think I'd ever be able to do one! Huzzah for YouTube :cheese:

Looks good!

I just made my first fishtail earlier this week, too, after reading a thread about it here. Actually, it took me a lot of attempts and a lot of tutorials to get it, until I found the perfect tutorial that explained everything clearly enough.

Mine looked messy and very frizzy, but it's impossible for me to get a braid that isn't frizzy, especially a fishtail braid. I have a lot of short fine hairs everywhere, and some short coarse hairs too, and they always poke out of any braid I do.

No matter what braid I do, it always seems to look like a centipede! Yours looks much neater!

Here was mine:

Right on! You did an excellent job, especially for your first one. That's a good badge of success. The first time I was able to fully do a fishtail, my arms fell off, so to speak. I had to pick them up and figure out a way to get them to work again, which took time. I hope your experience was much more arm friendly! :hifive:

They both look great! I love herringbone braids, they look so elvish :D
I tried a small herringbone braid on my braid tassel the other day (I was supposed to be studying Quantum Mechanics...yes, I know :o), and it came out rather messy and undefined, but it started to ressemble a herringbone braid! Just keep practising, I told myself ;)

Both of you did a lovely job with the fishtails! :) I think they look great when they're a little on the messy side.

I recently learned to fishtail as well, from a tutorial on youtube. (Videos are super helpful for figuring out styles!)

Looks great!

I recently saw a style on youtube that incorporates the herringbone technique.. It's very beautiful, and since I can't do nice braids yet, I figure I'll just share it:

It's a french fishtail braid wrapped into a side bun at the end. It reminds me so much of an intricate sea shell..

Oh well done - I tried and failed with this a few times, despite watching a tutorial!
