I always believed that a pretty good diet and a multivitamin was about as far as you could take nutrition as far as speeding hair growth. However, I've seen a lot on the boards about biotin and specific hair growth vitamins.:suspect: Can anyone tell me with any certainty (i.e., backed up with scientific peer-reviewed studies) that a certain vitamin or vitamin combination speeds hair growth?

I think its more of a trial and error process. Biotin has worked for me. Some take folic acid, some take a B vitamin or even iron. You gotta try it with your body and how it functions. We're all different :)

I don't take vitamins that contain biotin, but I will say that Omega-3 fish oil makes my hair shine like crazy and makes my face less dry. I have no idea if it helps growth, but it sure helps shine.

I'd just do a pubmed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) search for the keywords (I'm not a nutritionist, just a grad student in public health). Just be careful not to take too much of anything...folic acid included. Most of the U.S.'s grains (and a lot of other countries too) fortify their grains with a recommended daily dose of folic acid, and if you take too much (like eating a ton of fortified grains and supplementing with vitamins) it can be detrimental health-wise (though it's different if you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant).

Hope you find what you're looking for!
