You guys are making me want to try new braiding styles. Just saw someone's lace braid and a four braid I think it's called.

Are there any tutorials for the fancier braids? Even photos and what they are called so I can google search them? The braid in which you can braid it around your head would be great for me at horse shows--keeps the length hidden and looks fancy! ;)

Anything would help. I can do the herringbone and french braid very well, but want to branch out :D

The one you are describing around the head in a circle is called crown braid if that helps. (And I personally have no hope to ever successfully create one, lol.)

WOW! That site is awesome, but it looks as if the more complex braids need to be done by someone else?

I'll have to try some on a day I'm not running a fever ;)

You can do anything to your own hair with practice. (Practice! Practice! Practice!)

Check out... um... where did the Styles board go? Well, go here for Braided Coil instructions (http://public.fotki.com/plotchick/personal/hair/instructions-braide/braidedcoil1.html) - if you can french or dutch braid your hair it's SUPER easy!

great for pics, but I don't do so well on their directions.

I'd recommend googling the different braids you'd like to learn... and look around for directions that make it easy for you. also check youtube I find video's very helpful and youtube is great for braid and updo videos.

Such a cool rope braid video. I started a thread for it.

Indeed, by searching on the internet, practising, try, try, try, eventually your braiding skills will expand :)
I could never believe I ever would be able to do a french braid and now I can do 5-strand french braid, 6-strand ropebraid:)
I know a very good instructionsite, but it's in german...

I have learned all my braids from the dream weaver braiding site. I love it!

Still, Phalaenopsis I'd love to have the link to your german site, it's always usefull!!

I love the pics in the dreamweaver site but I had a little trouble with the instructions. I love the video of the rope braid, that made it really easy. I wish dreamweaver had videos.

I'd like to recommend Anne Akers Johnson's book, Hair - A Book of Braiding and Styles (http://www.amazon.com/Hair-Braiding-Styles-Scrunchies-Klutz/dp/1570540187). It's illustrated, and directions are clear and easy.

Not Phalaenopsis (obviously) but it think this (http://www.kupferzopf-flechtfrisuren.de/Basics.htm) is the site she referred to. If it's not, you'll have 2 new sites :)

Thanks ladies--I didn't know what the name of the braids were, so searching them was tricky. Now , with the names, I should be able to do this much easier! Thanks again! :)

Darkhorse1, if I can do some of those braids, believe me, anyone can. I couldn't even make a passable French braid when I joined the LHC.

Then, like you, I was intrigued by other members' braids, and I went to Dreamweaver Braiding, started to decipher the directions, and then, practise, practise, practise. I'm no expert, but on the other hand sometimes I'm surprised with what I can do!

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your handiwork some time soon. :flowers:
