This is what my hair looks like after it has been combed out. This was taken at 30".

As soon as I can I will post some more recent pictures. These are some of them that were on my former web site.

Very pretty! I don't think I've seen that kind of natural curl pattern before.

Thank you both for the compliments. I almost get the feeling my curl pattern is rare. I haven't seen many like it. I will get more recent pics as soon as I can.

Very pretty, Shelly! I love your "sausage curls" (is that what they're called?).

I like your hair too. I think that my own hair does a similar type of curl pattern, although not to the same extent as you:

I'm very curious to know what your routine is. I'm new here and trying to consider what to do first. I'm debating buying a cheap clarifying shampoo for a basic diagnostic, like so:

Or using ingredients I already have on hand to control my biggest problem!

http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=49898

Much of the newbie advice, I've already been doing for a long time: no sulfate shampoo, no silicone conditioner, and I apply shampoo just to the scalp of my head and let it gently rinse out the length of my hair. I don't brush or comb, I just finger comb with conditioner in. And I use leave-in conditioner. I wash only every two to three days. So all the newbie stuff, I already do.

I'm beginning to think that I need to wear my hair up more. I tend to just wear it down all the time, except for tying it in a messy knot on the back of my head when I go on bike rides and get all hot and sweaty. Wearing my hair up more -- in prettier buns -- might be useful for bad hair days, for riding my bike a lot days, and also just to help protect my hair. My big sin is that I let it get exposed to the sun, and so I get sun damage.

Sorry to go on! I don't mean to hijack. Okay, I may be hijacking. I'm trying to figure it out and would like to exchange tips with people who have hair similar to mine. I hardly feel in a position to give advice to others.

I can admire your hair....

I love your hair! I have a similar texture but my curls start higher up on my head- perhaps because I haven't quite gotten your length yet :)

Thank you ladies for all the wonderful comments. I have always prided myself on my hair and the care I take of it. This pride has helped me grow my hair to the length it is currently and will help me grow it to much much longer lengths.

Lapelosa, my full routine and products used can be found in my blog. I'm currently working on getting the ingredients list of all my products in my blog as well.
