Hey everybody!

Thanks so much for all your replies :) The first one is a lace braid, but I was gathering hair from the inner-most side away from the face, instead of the outer-most side nearest the face. I started in the left-most corner, above the doll's left eye, and braided loosely all the way down until I reached the near bottom of her hair. I curved the braid straight across toward the right and kept adding hair to this horizontal braid, until about the middle. I clipped this braid together so it wouldn't come undone, and started on the right side. Once I had braided all the way down and across on the right side, too, I braided the two end-braids together into one, made a tiny little bun, and clipped it underneath with two tiny hair clips.

The second braid is a waterfall braid. I started at the left-most side, above her eye, braided straight across to the right side, "waterfalling" as I went. When I reached the edge of her hairline on the right-most side, I braided normally a few times (didn't add any hair). Then I turned the braid back toward the left and "waterfalled" back the other way. The hair I added from the top was the left-over hair from the first waterfall braid. The hair I left out on the bottom was later incorporated into the next waterfall braid. When I reached the bottom, I braided in a lace-braid style (gathered the rest of the loose hair into the top of the braid, but didn't release any hair from the bottom section like in the waterfall braids.) I clipped the end of the braid together and tucked it underneath out of sight.

I love how you can do totally impractical hairdos on a doll!!!.
the lace braid is beautiful, but I would have ripped it apart (unintentionally) by the time I reached the car.
I'm glad you had a fun afternoon and thanks for sharing the lovely hairdos!!!

Wow, those are just gorgeous!! The dolls are really beautiful too, such a pretty face on the first one. Thank you so much for explaining how you did the braids! I might have been able to figure out #2 if I stared for a looooong time, but it was so nice to just scroll down and see your description! I may have to try that myself sometime.

I'm pretty decent with braids - anyone in Portland want to get together sometime and practice hairstyles on each other?

Omigosh that first one is SOOO pretty! I have to bookmark this thread because I love that style so much. Too bad my hair's too short for it :(

Another one I'd love to try is number 3, but I have to wait a few months to get more length.

As for number 2, it looks mighty complicated ...

I'm pretty sure these are Himstedt Kinder dolls. They do make lifesize (or almost) ones. I was going to buy one at one stage and I have catalogues for them from a few years ago when I used to collect dolls. Don't do that anymore though... http://himstedtheaven.com/

Wow, thank you, everybody!

I'm glad you all liked these braids.

The second one is based on the waterfall French braid. It was actually pretty easy to do,
since I could see what I was doing (unlike when I braid my one hair :) )

Yes, they are Himstedt Kinter dolls. So life-like!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
