My coconut oil was in a constant liquid state for a couple weeks last month due to the heat. Now its back to solid but has gotten kind of ...gritty. Its ok I guess because the gritts dissolve into my hair eventually - but is it still good? Should I toss & buy another jar just in case?

I also recently noticed small grains / grits in my coconut oil... My guess is that it's from being heated and cooled several times. Mine never got hot enough to be liquified, it mooves between very soft and "properly" solid (depending on wether the air conditioner is on or off).
I haven't noticed any other side effect and the oil still looks and smells the same, so I just keep using it...

Normal. The oil gets liquid and solid all the time and sometimes this changes it's structure a bit which is no problem. Sometimes the grittyness only is there in certain temperatures.

It's just a crystallization process because of incomplete heating/cooling.

If it bothers you, you can heat it up and let it stay hot for 20 minutes before letting it cool down again.

But no, it's not spoiled and you don't need to toss it.
