Hi All.
For the past several weeks I've had severely dry skin and a few patches of irritation on my skin. I went to a dermatologist, and he diagnosed me with eczema. While I was surprised that I had it (never had skin problems before), I wasn't too surprised since many people in my family also have eczema.
I'm dealing with treating my skin, mostly by being much more careful with it and hydrating it more often. I was never one to skip moisturizer, but now it's gone from an indulgence to a necessity.
What's confusing me is my hair. For about the same period of time as I've been having skin problems, my hair has been VERY dry. However, I have a very moisturizing hair routine because my curly 3b/c hair is very dry and loves moisture. I co-wash every night, put on a leave-in conditioner (all natural, aloe based), and seal with either an oil or a water-soluble silicone product I've been using for years. In the past, my hair never broke or had split ends.
The last few weeks my hair has been breaking like mad and while I don't have splits, if my hair stays this dry, I soon will. :(
Any ideas?
Any tips?
Another pet thought I had was that I had to take one round of prednisone to help heal my skin, and I wonder if that drug had an effect on my hair. My only doubt about that theory is that my hair has been getting increasingly dry for weeks, even before I had to take the prednisone.
Any help appreciated!
