Hi, I know this an odd first post. But I was wondering if white vinegar or even ACV was consider chelating since it removes mineral build up very well when cleaning shower-heads and tiles. Chelating shampoos are a little expensive for me and I know that vinegar is an acid that closes the hair cuticle but can it also chelate? I have hard water and this info could benefit me, Thanks! :p

I did a google search - sorry, I have no first hand information - apparently vinegar *can* work to remove hard water buildup, but apparently CLUB SODA of all things is even better.

You might want to read this thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=76159&highlight=chelate).

Citric acid also chelates, at least calcium and iron, and I think magnesium. I have hard well water, and I use a weak CA rinse after every washing (1/4 tsp. per gallon of water), and it's made a big difference. I also use chelated water when I prepare my homemade shampoo and herbal rinse. You might want to check out the miracle water thread: http://www.longhaircommunity.com/archive/showthread.php?t=51184.
