It's a sort of fancy dress alien party. I really want to look alienesque, instead of what my friend is doing ( big eye googles , green skin ) so has anyone seen any hair accessories anywhere that, say, a alien girl may wear. This is extremely weird, but I'm not one for dressing up much. Thank you for your help ! :)

I'm not sure what kind of hair toys an alien girl might wear -- I am not even sure that aliens have hair :alien: -- but maybe hair-stick antennae would work?

Anything that looks like antennas sticking out of the head.

Knitting needles show up in my imagination. Not the double-pointed ones but the long ones with a plastic topper on the rear end. You could wrap some aluminium foil round that topper for a more 'technical' effect, for example.

The first thing that came to mind was these silicon "octopus" that someone made when I was a kid. They took a tube of clear silicon caulk and squeezed it out into the shape of an octopus with lots of tentacles and sprinkled glitter on top of it. Going with the knitting needles idea, you could apply long tentacles to the top of a knitting needle and add glitter or little pieces of feather or whatever.

Sounds like a fun party!

Sounds like fun!
I think you should go for shiny metal and bright colors - a pair of knitting needles is a good place to start, I would suggest you get a pair of longish ones, and decorate the ends with metal wire and glass beads - wrap wire around the ends, and use a bit of glue to ensure it stays there!
You could also decorate an alice band to your taste - glue on shiny and glittery stuff to a suitably overdone effect - inspirations here (http://www.etsy.com/listing/76942109/20-off-sale-silver-tiara-with-garnet), here (http://www.etsy.com/listing/61258780/the-fitzgerald-silver-mirror-spike), here (http://www.etsy.com/listing/74919732/wedding-or-prom-alice-band-designed-by) and here (http://www.etsy.com/listing/76629667/beautiful-hand-crocheted-wire-beading).

You could take bangle bracelets and put them over a bun, and use pins to keep them on if they don't stay. It would be different but elegant, not overly costume-y.

Just found some knitting needles, so I'm going to use those and I really like the bangle over a bun idea. Thank you ! :)
