I am currently trying to grow out too dark, burgandy colored henna that I really do not like for myself. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful color, I just don't feel that it suits me. I currently have about 4 inches of my natural growth which is dark, ash blonde. I am really getting tired of the two-toned hair which is taking FOREVER to grow out and I am really not looking forward to the chop when I finally do ge the natural part long enough. I have been considering the option of just dying it all a rich, dark brown. My question is, do you think this would suit me? Or would the dark blonde look better?
Here is a recent picture of me that really shows the difference between roots and length:

thank you all for your advice in advance :)

I think, generally speaking, that you probably want to say in the same color family as your natural hair-color. Which is to say dark would work on you just fine, but I'm not sure you'd be any happier with a warm dark brown than you are warm dark red, so be careful with that.

I think it would look gorgeous dark. I'm just not sure if it will make YOU happy.

You can lighten up the henna with Sun-In, then you might be able to tone it more toward the ash color that you have. I think a dark color would work pretty well, too.

What is your opinion on ombre hair color? You might be able to blend your dyed length so it's a smooth transition to your roots. This way, you'd be able to keep your roots virgin and lose the demarcation line.

Spidermom, I have tried SunIn and it honestly did nothing sadly.
Becky, I have had dark borwn hair before and really liked it, I just wanted some opinions on what you all think would look best.
Luthein, I do like ombre hair, but generally only when the roots are darker and the ends are lighter so it looks natural, I just really am tired of this burgandy

If you're tired of this grow out process, you may feel similarly after dying your hair darker. Maybe try a semi colour instead of a permanent? (I'm no hairdresser, so I'm not sure, but I'd definitely check with a washable dye first :) ) Make sure it's truly what you want! Your natural color is lovely.

Have you thought about trying a colour remover such as ColorFix or Colour b4 on your henna? Check this thread out:

Colour removers should not damage your hair, or only very little. They will also not affect your natural colour. If you want to go natural, I would say that dying, even with a semi-perm, won't help, as most of these dyes still do have peroxide which would lift at least a bit of your hair colour under the pigment. You've grown out so much of your natural colour and it is so lovely, I would think twice if I were you about doing anything to it.

Thank you so much Theodora!!! I had never heard of ColorB4, it looks hopeful!

I don't know if you could somehow dye over the henna to your natural colour because I think that would look nice. I think if you went darker that would look good too I just don't know if you'd want the upkeep of colouring.

I think I'd go a shade or two darker if I were you. My personal preference tends to be toward nice rich browns, though.

I have decided to take it to a cool, dark brown. I have an appointment at my favorite natural salon, the dye is 99% plant deriven. I will post pictures as soon as I get it done!
