As some of you may or may not know, I have a Tumblr for my 101 in 1001 project (101 things to do in 1001 days). One of my entries on my list is "Go a week with no hair buns."

I pretty much wear buns every single day, with a few exceptions, and I thought this would be fun to change it up.

While I could just wear it down for a week, I'd like to go a little more creative than that. I'll probably wear it down for one day, but I'd also like to try some other things.

One challenge is that I work with kids, mostly infants and toddlers, so on the four days that I work, I definitely need my hair restrained.

For day one, I did a herringbone pinned across as a headband. It looks a little off, because it only goes just past halfway, but the asymmetry is kind of pretty.

There is an Amish hairstyle described here on this forum that is very practical, and that holds like nobody's business! I have used it several times, and have found that it is very practical - I used it when I went to hospital earlier this summer for an operation, and I did not touch my hair for something like three days. :p
You could also consider trying hair taping - that is also a very comfortable and practical style. :)

I like crown braids, though you have to practice to get them right. You could try French, Dutch, or 4- and 5-strand braids.

Hi, LisaMonster! Here is a link to how to create the laced braid around your head:

Beautiful braid! Maybe try a french twist? Or maybe the "one french braid and then roll the end and tuck it behind the braid"-style?

I like spiral braids, but perhaps they're a little fancy for an ordinary day, and they take a while to do. I normally start by ponytailing off most of my hair, leaving some free all around my head, and make a lace crown braid, then un-ponytail the rest and carry on lace braiding. I tend to use big enough sections so that there's space left to coil the remainder of my braided length in the middle and pin the tail under.

Otherwise, a straight up french or dutch crown braid is very pretty.
