and here is a style that I came up with for school...

Anyone else have any photos of these styles? Or any styles they've come up with? Thanks!

Your hair looks absolutely lovely in those styles! I'm afraid I don't have the length right now to do a pony bun, or I'd happily share photos. :)

I call it "skewered snails."

I don't have any pics of a pony bun, because my hair is still too short (or, more likely, too thick) to give me a decent tail. But I did come up with 2 buns before: the flower bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4392) (my current avatar) and the woven bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=5502). Pics of both styles are in my album too.

ETA: how did you do that, Spidermom? It looks pretty :)

First, I was struck by the 'do itself, which is very pretty.

Then, I hit the name you gave it and chuckled out loud. It looks a lot like skewered snails now that you've suggested it. Ah well, I've always been fascinated by snails. Add me to the list of readers that would like to know how it's done.

All of these are lovely--you are all so creative.

Thanks everyone! Isilya, are you sure your hair would be too short? It's longer than mine!! But the thickness may have something to do with it. I'm only ii!

Goldenwaves, your hairstyles are gorgeous! :thud: Is the pony bun a knot tied in the hair with the ends hanging down? If so, how is it secured?

I made a new style the other day, but I didn't take a picture. I twisted my hair until it started to coil, but instead of letting it coil into a cinnabun, I tied a knot in it. Then I spiraled the rest of the hair around the knot as though making a cinnabun. It ended up looking almost the same as a cinnabun, but the knot eats up some length, so it was tidier and more compact than a cinnabun would be at my length.

I'm sure :) I tried it lots of times, but the tail I have is pathetic and tiny. And it unravels in a matter of seconds because of that, too

ETA: Physicschick, yes, the pony bun is a knot with the rest of the hair hanging down. You have to secure the knot part and the weight and length of the tail should keep the knot in.

Oh, I didn't do it like that! I tied the top half up (like a simple half-up), grabbed the bottom part and twisted it around the top ponytail, and secured with pins. Simple and effective! Good luck trying it out :)

Ah, OK then :) I always thought it was a real knot. Or maybe that's called something else.

I can do a normal pony with a bun around it just fine :D

Oh that is SO pretty! I have to admit I am a bit shy of tying any kind of knot in my hair! I always seem to get it all tangled up. I will try this. It looks gorgeous on you!!!
