I'm trying to learn some new updos and am very excited to announce that i've finally learned how to figure 8 my waist length hair! What is the newest updo you've learned? Links would be great if you have them. And pictures are always appreciated.

I really like French Twists.

I've just recently been able to manage a pinless braided bun.

A Dutch lace braid, over the top of my head, like a headband. If you would check my posts in the 'How are you wearing your hair today'-thread, you'd see I wear it a lot lately :)

Gibraltar bun! It doesn't look an amazing amount like one, but it follows the method, and it holds like a rock. I'm so glad I managed to do it: finally, a standard 'bun-shaped' bun I can wear! :D

Sometimes things just sort of hit you you know that you have read about for ages and never really think it will work on your or something and so I wanted so badly to get my hair out of the way while I have been sick that I twirled it around on top of my head and anchored it with little claw clips. It felt great and I realized how much I had missed wearing my hair up there for so long! Most buns pull on me but I guess the difference is the very lightweight and distributed clips. They really hardly show and it all looks messy but I can see this will become a new favorite!

I could do this 'do awhile back, then got a trim and couldn't, and now I can again. I forget the name of it. It wraps like a cinnamon bun, then I take the inner coils and lift them to the outside of the outer coils. It holds through everything, even wind.

My latest go to 'do is the chain bun:

I had been wearing an infinity on an almost daily basis, but this is much more comfortable for me.

It's not an updo but it's a half-up, so that counts, right? Well my newest half-up is two lave braids meeting in the back. I'm wearing it right now, for the first time. :cheese:

So yes, that's my newest 'do.

But for updo-updo? Ummmmm, I've hit on lace-rope-braiding the front of my hair for more volume while I cinnamon bun the back. but that's not a new do, altogether.

i am getting a lot of ideas reading this thread! my newest is the equilibrium bun. my hair is not quite long enough for it i think (it falls out pretty quickly), but it's on its way.

I just figured out how to do a figure 8 as well and really love how the hold feels on it with a hair stick..wow, that chain bun looks really beautiful on your hair missmanytoes

Thanks, katiana! That chain bun looks all complicated but is, in fact, quite easy to do once your fingers know what is required of them. And it does not feel "tight" like an infinity bun did on me.

Wow! Those are all great achievements! I'm impressed. LOL!

I keep practicing at night in front of the computer and they look at least decent. When I try to do the same updo in the morning they are not even presentable. I need to work on them more!

To be fair, since I requested pics, here's my not so great figure 8 that I sported all day yesterday. It didn't move a smidge all day!

Here's the latest for me, a double cinnabun:

Pay no attention to the hair cleavage on the left side there. Held in place with a large bobby pin in each bun. Very comfortable and light-feeling.

I learned a bun from youtube called "heart bun". It doesn't look amazing or anything but I can use one stick to hold it. I'm very happy about it. :)

FWIW, I have the turd bun completely mastered.
No matter what I do lately, it looks like a turd.
Waiting anxiously to gain enough length to do something spectacular (no, not a larger turd).
