Well i purchased a tub of coconut oil yesterday and used it last night after my shower. I only used a tiny bit, on fingertips, and worked that through my hair. And today it feels good but it LOOKS really quite greasy, it actually looks like my hair is a bit wet still.
Do other people just put up with the greasy look? Or does this not happen to you?
I dont know how often i'll be using this as it just doesnt look nice

I just apply oil to the ends as well. Helps reduce tangling and protect ends. But I find it too weighty for the length.

I use it on the ends only, too - and only a drop, since its a very heavy oil!!

What about using it on dry hair, then washing a few hours later?

Better still is to apply it to dry hair really thoroughly and leave it on overnight, covering pillows with an old towel, then wash it off in the morning.
This gives the coconut oil time to penetrate and really benefit the hair.

I'm only beginning to use sweet almond oil, and I think my hair likes it, but my length remains a bit greasy for a couple of days too if I overdo myself. The first time I oiled, I applied it to my length in general, and I didn't mind it getting wet and greasy because I was going to wash a few hours later. But after the wash, a fair bit of the oil remained still in my hair (and next day too, less, but there was still some oil in my hair), and it was a bit uncomfortable.
Now I principally oil the ends, generally a few hours before washing or the night before, and pat the length with the remains, and it seems to work better like this.
I'm still wondering about what good would a 'serious' oiling do to my hair. I've just read that some of you just apply them to the ends, to protect them (that was my main aim when beginning to oil), but wouldn't it also help the split hairs further above my length? Maybe a messy oiling once a month, or something?

That's more or less what I did one day. I didn't left it overnight, just a few hours before washing. But the oil didn't come off completely even though I had dared to apply a bit of shampoo at my lower length too! I'm edging out of thorough oiling because I don't really want to apply a lot of shampoo near my ends...
Do you have a lot of trouble getting the oil off your hair, or is it just me?

I had exactly the same problem - I have had to stop using it

I have the same problems as others on this thread (using too much oil and hair looking greasy and it not washing out). I think I just need to figure out the correct amount of oil to use. I just shampoo my scalp too so that may be part of the problem.

I don't use oils often as I get build up easily, but if I do a heavy oiling I wash it out by doing first a CO-wash for all my hair and then using shampoo on the scalp just to be safe. Some people say CO is actually better at removing oils than shampoo. Maybe that will help:)
