Well, considering the fact that my hair tapers off almost immediately into what most of you here would refer to as "small braids," I could pretty much post any pic of my hair with a braid! :o(

August 2nd, 2011, 07:30 AM
Me too, PeggyE! If I made an accent braid there wouldn't be enough hair for the updo! :D

August 2nd, 2011, 10:46 AM

It's an old picture (from when I could still force my nautilus bun into the large flexi :P), but there is an accent braid! It was larger than I intended when I made it, but I think it looked nice :)

A Regency-esque pony made with about a zillion microbraids. I really liked the way this looked, but it had a lot of braid shred. Anyhoo, it is in my album if you want to see it larger, you can double click it, I think.

I love doing accent braids! Even though my thin hair and layers and awful taper make it extremely difficult, I still love it. Posting pictures later....

August 3rd, 2011, 01:30 AM
Pinless braided bun - my favourite bun. Here with accent braids, I usually do two on each side of my part.

From last year...the 9 mini braided braid

August 4th, 2011, 01:55 AM
This is going to be fun! These pictures aren't new, but I'll make sure to get some new pictures this month! :D
Last summer - four small rope braids in a half-up.

My Constitution Day updo this year - my avatar pic is this same updo, but the angle is different - this side view shows my accent braids better.

August 4th, 2011, 04:42 AM
And another - this is today's 'do! :D

August 4th, 2011, 04:56 AM
This is going to be brilliant. I love accent braids!

Alvrodul, your styles look fantastic.

August 4th, 2011, 05:06 AM

My Constitution Day updo this year - my avatar pic is this same updo, but the angle is different - this side view shows my accent braids better.

Very pretty! What kind of braid is that? Its really interesting looking.

August 4th, 2011, 09:38 AM
Top picture are 4 rope braids that are looped and fastened with a Flexi-8. The accent you can see in the bottom picture is a chain braid - there is another one on the other side of my head. Looks interesting and complicated, but it is dead easy to do! If you can do an English braid, you can do that one. Instructions are here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2n5XkFh88A&feature=related). :D

Good lord - My hair's a MESS! This treating the ends and not the rest business is going to have to go....

In the meantime - here's the pathetic attempt at "accent/micro" braids. Do like my new barrette, though! ;o)

August 4th, 2011, 05:30 PM
Alvrodul, I really like your most recent style! Gorgeous! :thud:

Here's mine... it's a fully-rolled sock bun with rope accents. I've never done accent braids before, so it isn't very complicated.

Not micro braids but lace accents (do they count?).

August 4th, 2011, 09:31 PM
Yay! These are fun, though I don't seem to have as many in my albums as I thought. Time to do more hairdos!
Here's what I have though:
And of course Rapunzel's braid:

August 5th, 2011, 02:35 AM
Here's mine. French mohawk braid with an accent braid.

August 5th, 2011, 06:34 AM
Wow, Lunnafindel - those updos are great! :crush: And I definitely agree - minibraids are fun! :D

MissManda, isn't it fun how those microbraids add a little pizzazz to an updo? Your sockbun looks great!

Julliams, Eirelin, very well done!

Here is another from me! (from today):D

August 5th, 2011, 07:03 PM
This is from today.. did the accent braid on both sides and pulled it all into one regular braid :)

August 6th, 2011, 08:04 AM
Today, a Victorian updo, and with a Victorian (okay, probably Edwardian) comb, too! :D

August 6th, 2011, 08:45 AM
This is my contribution

August 6th, 2011, 09:26 AM
I'll have to upload a picture later but I seperated my hair into around 8 sections, braided those and then wrapped them around into an awesome braidy cinnabun. :)

August 6th, 2011, 08:49 PM
Alvrodul, what IS that? (the herringbone braid, not the eduardian 'do, though that's awesome too) It is SO cool, how did you do it? How many braids did you use? How did you wrap them? I'm amazed.

I was going a bit cray with those braids - what I ended up doing wasn't quite what I had intended, but if it works... ;) I'll probably be thinking about another approach to my initial idea.
So the braids: A herringbone braid in the back, and two braids on each side in front. The frontmost braids I did by starting them out as Dutch braids, angled backwards, and continuing with English braiding to the ends, then behind/below those braids, a rope braid on each side. (I like rope braids!) Then I took the rope braids and pulled them through the top of the herringbone braid, from the front to the back, and sort of wrapped the herringbone braid in the rope braids, like I did in the style in post 12 on this thread. Then I did the same wrapping with the English braids - I ended both the wraps by using a small elastic holding the two braids together "behind" the herringbone braid. Make sure the English braids are sort of tucked in "behind" the rope braids at the top - that looks nicer - the left side was not tucked in in the picture! And the wrapping should be nice and loose - don't strangle your center braid! :D
Styles that inspired this do, were this Elrond braid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SalqLb7z94), and this Isolde style (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BST8GCmpBE). :D

One from this year:

And to think that one year ago - less, even - I was a true braidtard! :D:gobblecheese:
Gorgeous bun Madora! How many minibraid was it in that bun? Nine or siomething like that, wasn't it? :D

August 7th, 2011, 12:40 PM
Wow there are some gorgeous braids in this thread....I love microbraids!!!!

Here's my attempt. I don't know if this counts but I like the effect :p

Yes, Alvrodul, nine mini braids! Thanks for the compliment!

August 7th, 2011, 04:15 PM
I didn't think I would, but I'm stuggling with this one. I think it's too hot and humid to deal tiny braiding that tangles up at the ends as I'm working on it. Maybe another day, like in October.
Don't suggest hair oil. tried it, still got mats.

August 7th, 2011, 10:13 PM
This is my kind of month!! I do accent braids all the time because of my bangs not going all the way into my updos! :) Here's one I did when I (finally) did a sock bun correctly tonight :)

p.s. am I safe to sleep in a sock bun? is that an okay, protective overnight updo?

August 8th, 2011, 04:18 AM
Another. :D
This is a ponytail, split in two, the two parts rope braided and looped, and fastened with a Flexi-8. Two thin rope braids are collected and looped above the big "bow". :D

August 8th, 2011, 06:17 PM
here's another attempt:

August 8th, 2011, 07:07 PM

I was browsing the Hair Style Dictionary and had to try AprilElf's braid flip. Then I thought, hey, microbraids! So here ya go.

Here is my Golden Crown Bun with braids. This is a super size SOCK BUN :)

August 10th, 2011, 07:21 PM
Everyones styles are so pretty. I love looking at the the photos. I really need to do more of these styles. Here are some sock buns with accent braids
And a cinnamon bun wrapped in accent braids http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j247/meowgoddess/100_1362.jpg

August 11th, 2011, 03:52 AM
A couple of firsts for me here: Two Dutch braids (I have earlier only managed one straight down the back) joined at the back of my head. Two accent braids from the nape of my head looped around, and are held by a pretty Flexi-8 that also adds a bit of interest. :D

Cirafly, your twin rose buns are adorable! :D

LadyLongLocks and Emerald, sock buns are wonderful paired with some nice accents - gorgeous buns! :D

MagicAndMayhem - a sweet and simple style! :D

I think my old avatar might count (that's Eresh's fan bun, done with rope braids-- it's in my album). Here are a few of my other braid-y styles from recent years:

and braids!

August 14th, 2011, 09:54 AM
everyone I work with has been doing styles with accent braids all week. Not even LHC related.

August 15th, 2011, 11:39 AM
sorry for the poor photo..I just can't get good ones on my own, but here is today's attempt a Victorian inspired look to show off the lovely comb I got from Peggy E on the swap board. :)

August 15th, 2011, 12:10 PM
I love that style, Calaelen! :inlove: How did you do it?
And the comb is gorgeous, of course! Love that, too! :D

August 15th, 2011, 12:52 PM
Thanks Alvrodul!
Okay well this was a style I'd been thinking on for some time...I took lilith moon's technique from this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdGDPl56vpE but sectioned my hair for a different result. I did a standard crown parting and the parted the two top sections to make my braids as she did in that video...I continued the french part only to my chin and then finished the braids to the ends.
I then clipped them up as she did in the video, but the fall part hit the middle of my head instead of my nape as with her technique...I let the remaining braids hang loose while I continued the rest of the style...which was to separate horizontally the remaining hair left at the back and make two celtic knots out of it, one on top of the other. I secured this with spin pins. Then I took the remaining accent braids and arranged them as I wanted them to fall, over the knots. Added the comb and voila...lol

August 18th, 2011, 10:53 AM
Semi-crown braid to hold back my long bangs going into a messy bun.

August 18th, 2011, 01:21 PM
okay, sorry about the last post. I'll figure out how to post pictures.

Maybe I can help. :)
First your pics have to be uploaded to a site, like photobucket or flickr.
There you copy the pics url and go here an click on the small icon that looks like o sun over some mountins, bottom row, third icon from the right, insert the ulr there. :)

I hope this helps, I'm curious about your pics. :cheese:

I often do accent braids with a bead on either sides of the base of my skull, and then play around.

I think I have the same beads! haha I like to use them on my braids and my baby dread as well. I like to lace braid my partialy grown out bangs and then use a bead instead of a rubber band at the end :)

August 20th, 2011, 07:03 PM
I tried an accent braid on one side, with a low sockbun behind the ear on the other side, and found it was really cute. I went fishing that day XD. I'll have to do it again and post a picture. Also looks cute with a twist rather than a braid.

August 21st, 2011, 09:30 AM
I have 2 more coming up after this one, love accent plaits/braids :)

August 22nd, 2011, 06:47 AM
WOW! Wonderful hair, slz! And a wonderful style, too! And irishlady, your picture proves that you don't need hair the length of slz's to do this style - or braiding generally! :D
Terpentyna, I like your braids, too. The central one, that is a 4-strand, right?

Here is another one of mine - this time with a lovely vintage backcomb! :D

August 22nd, 2011, 11:24 PM
It is not as awesome as most of you guy's braids.. but I was mildly pleased with it. I just need practice splitting up my hair. It was crazy parted in the back.

I did double buns with a braided bang area.
And, my henna looks odd here. In this light I've dark roots. Weird.

August 24th, 2011, 06:48 AM
Looped braids. I have done something similar earlier, but something like this is really easy to tweak!

Here I have done a french braid in a stripe from the forehead andd over the crown, but did not braid all the way to the nape. I sectioned off some hair on each side for the narrow braids, and added the rest of the hair to the end of the french braid. I divided that hair into two sections, and English braided each section. I then did the narrow English braids, starting them rather loosely and directing them upwards and backwards. When I had finished all the braids, I first looped and positioned the large braids, then looping and arranging the thin braids on top, before fastening all the braids in place with a Flexi-8

August 26th, 2011, 05:49 AM
lovely, but I cant seem to microbraid my fine hair without snarling it . . .something it is not prone to doing at any other time

ccmso12...perhaps if you spritzed your hair with a little water that might help in the braiding process?

I love the look of this kind of "sloppy" braids - each time I try to do it I end up with regular (as in, my usual super-tight) braids because I just can't help tightening them as I braid ! But I really love the casual / messy look it gives. Also I like how it blends well with your length, giving an "accent" without too much presence.

Yeah that's true - I find braids in shorter hair to be really interesting and maybe even more striking because they're kinda unexpected, long hair-->braids, OK, that's nothing new, but on short hair, I don't know, it feels different. In a great way !

Aww you're very kind :)

I like how this turned out that day yeah, I was intending for the braids to be a bit tighter and neater, but they just turned out that way, a bit different but hey it works :)

August 27th, 2011, 12:53 PM
I tried this one today. I'm pretty impressed with the results - even if a ton of bobby pins are showing. If I do this again, I will be more careful about tucking in the bobby pins better.

August 29th, 2011, 04:57 AM
How did you do that updo, redkdawg? It looks quite interesting, and I am not able to figure it out.

Here is more looped braid fun from me. As for how I did it - I started doing a french braid, but did not braid it all the way - I stopped about halfway, tied off with an elastic, and divided the pony in two part. I then made a 4-strand round braid from each of those parts. I then divided the rest of the hair into two parts and did those braids like this: I took the hair from the back on the right side, pulled it upwards and to the left, and did an English braid going upwards and forwards, starting to the left of the end of the French braid.. I then did likewise with the hair on the left, only pulled the hair upwards and to the right.
I then sort of wrapped the beginnings of the English braid around the end of the French braid to conceal the elastic, and fastened with the smaller Flexi. These braids were then falling obliquely towards the front.
I then looped and arranged all the braids to my liking, and fastened them with the larger Flexi. :D

Today's updo: Braided bun with loops. :)

August 30th, 2011, 03:38 AM

Wow, what a lot of beautiful braids! Thanks so much to Alvrodul
for telling me to check this thread :) Now that I've looked at everyone's amazing pictures,
I see mine aren't up to par at all :p But here they are, just the same:

Micro-French braids from today (I was wearing my Tae Kwon Do jacket at the time LOL)

I have several more pictures, but I'll post them in a separate thread so I don't take up too much room here with too many views of the same look :o

to everyone on such amazing accent braids! You've given me a wealth of new ideas!

To finish this month, four minibraids into a braided bun - i inspired by arc691's wonderful updo!

August 31st, 2011, 09:01 AM
Hi everybody!

Here is day two of my Micro-French braids~ I added them into a regular French braid.

[quote=Alvrodul;1758268]How did you do that updo, redkdawg? It looks quite interesting, and I am not able to figure it out.[quote]

I divided my hair into three sections. First section was a section in front of my ear, 2-strand braid then twisted. The next section was over my ear; I just English-braided that section. I then pulled each braid over my head & bobby-pinned it so that the next section covered any ends.

I then took the remaining back section, divided that in half & Dutch-braided that up next to the second section. I did the same over the head cross over.

Then I hair-sprayed the whole thing. :)

the inspiration was LaDollyVita33's "Hair inspired by Catelyn (Tully) Stark video on youtube.

September 1st, 2011, 06:25 PM
This might be too silly but one of the bigger reasons I chose to grow my hair is to make two tiny "half-up braids" like the first picture. At the moment, I'm growing my bangs to do that. :)

I decided to spice it up with two rope braid buns close together (though it doesn't really look it).

*don't mind my fading dark brown rinse please :D

Here's some more:

Just a bun with plain english braids.
And rope braids then the rest clipped up, kept loose and not to neat, inspired by Edith Tolkien.

I love accent braids! They are just so classic - never gets old for me. =]

May 16th, 2012, 01:20 PM
I tried this today (and got a compliment from a fellow long haired lady!) and while it looked "ok" first thing this morning (I definitely need to practice!), as the day wears on, the baby hairs/halo are making it look super-messy (I'm a curly girl)

I did this on hair washed last night and air-dried then only applied a few drops of baby oil this morning before doing two side braids, then a braided bun with the rest and wrapping the side braids in and around the bun ...it is secured with 1 short hair stick and a few small (mainly decorative) claw clips to keep the accent braids in place

I wondered if either braiding it damp/wet or oiled would help keep the halo under better control? I have gotten away from using any sort of styling products but I wouldn't object to either spray gel or regular gel if need be

anyone have any suggestions?

May 16th, 2012, 01:25 PM
I'd use water to help tame those loose bits. Every time you put oil or aloe on your hair, it adds to buildup..plus attracts stuff floating around in the air.

May 16th, 2012, 01:27 PM
oh, good to know!

thanks...I'll try water and see if it helps!

May 29th, 2012, 07:12 AM
Thans soo much for all the beautiful pictures! I have been looking for an easy way to change up my hair styles mico braids are perfect! Thans everyone!

I will have to try this.
