View Full Version : Would you shave your head bald for $2000?

discoisntdead
August 1st, 2011, 08:50 AM
Inspired by the "Would you go bald for 1 million" thread.

$2000 is still a hefty chunk of money but definitely not as enticing as $1 mil. I've heard of long, high quality virgin hair being sold for ~$2000.

The minimum length I want my hair to grow would be waist. If I had waist length hair and someone offered me $2000 to shave it all off, I'd take the time to consider it.

No way. I know by recent experience that 2000 dollars would become thin air in a matter of months. In my pockets anyway.

August 1st, 2011, 08:54 AM
Yep. I need the money, and I don't mind short hair (if I did it again, I would have good hairdressers who could shape it every couple months). Plus I've always wondered what it would look like fully shaved....

For me $2000 no where near enough- it would be gone in a flash and it would take years to regrow that hair. Not worth it. 1 million- maybe. I can do a lot with that.

$2k? No way.

$1 million? Absolutely.

$500,000? Probably.

I'd probably think about it once it started getting close to $100,000.

spidermom
August 1st, 2011, 09:12 AM
I'd need at least $10,000 to shave bald, and even then I'd have to think about it.

angleofdeth
August 1st, 2011, 09:14 AM
Nope.

A million...yeah, $500,000 probably. Financial security is a good thing. : )

August 1st, 2011, 09:14 AM
No way. All the money I spent on hair toys and hair care has got to be more than that. Money is subjective though. If there was an emergency need for it in a life-or-death situation for a loved one when I absolutely cannot find other means of securing that amount of money, then I'd shave it all off without hesitation.

misspriss
August 1st, 2011, 09:15 AM
No. That is not nearly enough.

Over $50K would probably be enough. Pay our debts, go on a nice vacation, and buy a decent car.

August 1st, 2011, 09:22 AM
for 2000$ - no way!!! (unless something happens and I need the 2000$ to save someone's life and have no other way to get it, or something of that sort...)
For a million I would... (hey, a million dollars is a lot of money!)
Maybe for 500K, but I'd have to consider it for a while first... My hair is a significant part of me now, and parting with it won't be easy, even for that much money...

QueenJoey
August 1st, 2011, 09:23 AM
I'd have to think about it, for sure. I'd probably be more likely to do it for $2k rather than $1 mil, because it seems more likely to happen., you know? Like I wouldn't trust anyone who claims to give my such a large sum of money just for saving my head.

$2k would be spent and gone rather quickly, though. If they offered $10 or $20k I'd be a bit more willing to give them my "lucious locks",because it's alot, but not as ridiculous. My hair isn't that long yet, anyways.

Cowgirl16
August 1st, 2011, 09:26 AM
Hmmm; No. Anymore that really isn't that much money:shrug: Right now...45K and I would do it :D

scorpio_rising
August 1st, 2011, 09:28 AM
I will do it right now, today, for a mere $50K. Any takers? :D

ChatNoir
August 1st, 2011, 09:30 AM
Hmm.. I actually have to go with yes on 2000$ That's about 12 000 NOK which is a lot for a poor student like myself :P And I don't think I'd mind being bald for a couple of years... at least it would all be virgin! :D

Copasetic
August 1st, 2011, 09:32 AM
No, probably not for $2000. I am lucky enough to be ok financially. But a year ago I might have said yes to $2000.

jeanniet
August 1st, 2011, 09:32 AM
Not for $2000. For $100,000, yep, I'd do it. I could do a complete, really nice (and badly needed) remodel on my house for that, or just do some of the work that's more urgent and bank half. I'd take a million, though, if anyone is offering. :D

pink.sara
August 1st, 2011, 09:39 AM
Haha, no! $2000 isn't even a months wages here in the UK. Maybe £10k (about $17000) would do as I'm not APL yet. But even then I'd have to really think about it!

Emerald88

No way - after all the time and care I've spent to make it grow a bit....I wouldn't shave it all for less than 500.000 (it's a lot of money)

pepperminttea
August 1st, 2011, 09:58 AM
for 2000$ - no way!!! (unless something happens and I need the 2000$ to save someone's life and have no other way to get it, or something of that sort...)

Ditto. Ordinarily, not a chance, but if I or someone I love was in absolutely dire need, then yes.

The rest of the time, I think it'd have to be £10,000 or more. Just over double that would even better, to clear my student debts! Ah, if only. :p

mrs_coffee
August 1st, 2011, 10:12 AM
I would. There are a lot of things that $2,000 would help us out with.

vendethiel
August 1st, 2011, 10:12 AM
A mere $2,000 is not nearly enough money for me to shave my head. Even $100,000 seems low, considering how much time I spend on my hair. If I spend a minimum of an hour a day on my hair and give myself a salary of $10 an hour, that means in a year I've spent $3,560 in time alone. Over a period of 20 years, that is about $70,000. However, if I spend 10 hours a week on my hair (not 7) that ends up being about $5,200 per year and about $104,000 over a period of 20 years, not including the money spent on washing, treatments, toys, and etc... So, no, $2,000 is not enough.

SimplyViki
August 1st, 2011, 10:13 AM
Nope. Not worth the years and years it took to grow this stuff.

ericthegreat
August 1st, 2011, 10:17 AM
Absolutely not. $2000 is practically just spare change these days. As I stated on the 'shave your head for a million dollars thread', I would demand at least $10 million as sufficient compensation.

Áine
August 1st, 2011, 11:18 AM
2000 US Dollars is really a paltry sum... some people pay almost that much or more in rent or mortgage every month.

When it hits six figures, maybe then I might think about it.

Dina L.
August 1st, 2011, 11:20 AM
No. :)
Also agree with Áine on the six figures.

Anje
August 1st, 2011, 11:34 AM
No, I think my minimum would be 5 figures.

HairFaerie
August 1st, 2011, 11:36 AM
Sure. I could use an extra $2,000. My hair is short right now anyway, so bald would be no biggy. Also, it would give a good chance to grow out virgin! :)

papillion
August 1st, 2011, 11:41 AM
My initial response was yes. I need the money, and it'd also have the added bonus of getting rid of all the bleach so I'd be back to my natural colour.

But I suspect that a shaved head would put off potential employers, and might stop me getting a job. So I probably wouldn't do it, but only because of the long term financial implications.

JuliaDancer
August 1st, 2011, 11:49 AM
No way. $2000 isn't worth it at all. Six figures would do it for me!

Juneii
August 1st, 2011, 11:57 AM
no, I can probably make 2k in a fraction of the time it would take to regrow my hair to this length again.

ingvild
August 1st, 2011, 12:06 PM
At first I thought yes, because I'm a poor student. But then I think I can make the double of that during a summer with a low-paying job. Another zero behind the number, then yeah, probably.

Avital88
August 1st, 2011, 12:07 PM
no way.. i would not even cut my nails for that haha just kidding

August 1st, 2011, 12:07 PM
Good point, Papillion. Although, I have had my hair shaved once from waist length. It was not shaved bald, just really really short, except for my hairline, which was about an inch long there. That is quite presentable.

pittsburgpam
August 1st, 2011, 12:13 PM
Absolutely not for $2000. I don't need the money and that's hardly more than a week's pay.
Now, if it was 6 figures, I'd consider it. That would go nicely towards my retirement fund. :)

For 7 figures, sure I would.

C.H.
August 1st, 2011, 12:16 PM
No. That's not enough. It would have to be enough to substantially change my quality of life and not just fund a little shopping spree.

vrle
August 1st, 2011, 12:30 PM
I've been thinking about this... My hair doesn't grow at an exceptional rate, but because I hardly need trims it does grow back quite quickly. I would probably be happy with my hair again after 12-18 months. So the real question is: how much money does it take to offset looking 'bad' for a year? 2000 euro would probably be enough to seriously consider it. You could start cutting it yourself within a minute if I would actually believe I get 5000 euro. No questions asked!

Would I shave my head for $2000?
NO

FluffSpider
August 1st, 2011, 01:16 PM
I would cut it to chin(as in, giving away most of the length) in a heartbeat. Actually shaved... I would consider it and haggle for 50% more or something. That's a bit under what my parents make (combined) in 3-4 months. It would be rather welcome, and deep inside I think I crave a major change.

RitaCeleste

I'd cut it to my shoulders for 2 grand, a bob for 3 and bald for 5. But I would probably just grow and grow until my hair is worth more, and try and get 10 grand for a bob or something instead.

Btw, a lot of you with longer hair could actually shave your heads and get about 2 grand. There are sites that would pay for it, and LHC methods hair would probably fetch even better for the quality.

UltraBella

Oh my, absolutely no way. $2,000 ???!?!? That's 1.5 days of work for me.
My head would get cold, I would look funny and feel grumpy. Not happening !

ETA: My answer doesn't read like it sounded in my head. I would like to add that I feel very fortunate to be in the financial situation that I am in and if it were to ever change, I would do whatever is necessary to take care of my family. Bye bye, hair, car, etc.....

hm, I have to say I would not. 2K is a fair bit of money to me, but all my family's basic needs are covered. There is no luxury expenditure I would enjoy more than my hair.

My kids' college funds are fairly sad-looking but that would only be $500 apiece for them, which is just a drop in those buckets.

And while me and DH's retirement funds are perking along somewhat better, if I stuck my 2K in there, who's to say it won't evaporate overnight anyway?

$2000 is a little too low, but I'd definitely consider it for $1000 an inch!! It's a pain to grow, but it does grow back. I think that having my car and student loans paid for would somehow make shaving my head totally worth it.

No way!!! $2000 isn't much at all really. Heck the pension the government gives me is about $2000 a month... so it's really like a month's wages for me...and it's not really a "wage" because I don't even have to work for it! So yeah...

For me to shave my head bald it'd have to be some good amount of money. Were talking MAYBE $50,000 (AUD too!! USD is a bit low at the moment). And even then it'd take some hard thinking...

$1 million I'd do it for in a heartbeat though :D.

Not unless I was extremely destitute and had hungry children to support and no other means in sight.

Sure when you've got bills hanging over your head, no food and pay day a long way off it seems enticing but the thing is there is ALWAYS another bill.

The $2000 would be gone much much much quicker than my hair could grow to this length again.

Eirelin
August 2nd, 2011, 12:04 AM
I would. That is:

More than 3 mortgage payments
A used vehicle before this one breaks down
A course to become a certified Celebrant
Over 6 months' worth of electric bills
More than 547 gallons of gasoline
22 visits with my son (who lives nearly 2 hours away)

Yeah, especially since I remember that not only did my sister go bald for a good portion of the end of her life (cancer treatments), but after mine got chopped off and donated (stupid, stupid, stupid me), it was only an inch or 2 in length anyway, which I could grow back in a couple of months.

And for $56.00 of that $2000, I could buy a wig again :D

Nå absolutely not, not for 2000 dollars, hell I have probably used more money than that over the years in shampoo, brushes, hair cures, toys and so on, I would not shave my head for such a sum. For one million dollars that is something else, that would mean me and hubby would have a house without any mortgage and if we where smart about it a economically secure future. However for 2000 not a chance in hell.

Not a chance. Not for 2 grand, 2 mil sure, i'd spent more than 2k on wigs XD

Absolutely not. I don't think any amount of money would make me shave my head. I'd rather be stuck working all the time to pay off my debts than be unhappy and self-conscious about my appearance . (Unless it was a truly desperate situation without any other options.)

I'd need to make enough profit to get a few high quality and convincing wigs, so probably not.

Shave my head?!!!!! :run::run:

Unless I were really really desperate (and even then, I would try to avoid it), nope, absolutely not. shudder:

$2k? No way.

$1 million? Absolutely.

$500,000? Probably.

I'd probably think about it once it started getting close to $100,000.

I agree 100%

Only if I was really desperate for money.

I'm thinking that I'd do it for $10,000. It would be a drop in the bucket toward my kids' future education, but hair grows, and it would make an interesting story in the meantime. :scissors:

My first reaction to this was absolutely not, but I've been thinking about it for a few days now and I think if I were desperate enough, I would. I just don't see myself ever being that desperate.

I would shave my head for one million dollars in an instant. I'd consider it for fifty thousand, but I think I would try to hold out for one hundred thousand.

Nope, 20,000 maybe

No, it would take me about two years to have enough hair with which to do anything, and I've buzzcut my hair before, so I know. It's not worth it. I'd probably do it for £50,000, but a great wig would be part of the deal.

This is a great indicator of the value of money now.
I'm surprised that in some 'rich countries' now $2,000 its a lot of money.

In my city, I don't know many girls who would do it for the money only - maybe other reasons; broken heart or anger or some kind of pressures. Maybe the very poor people in the countryside are different thinking like I see in places like India.
Sorry if my life experience and culture are different from other people here.

Sorry if my life experience and culture are different from other people here.

But that's exactly what makes it worth talking about. It would be so boring if we were all the same. :)

$2000 wouldn't last nearly long enough. By the time I'd spent $2k, my hair might grow from bald to buzz length. xP No thanks.
For a million I'd consider it. But for less, definitely not, unless circumstances were extremely different than they are now.

Nope, not even for an infinite amount of money, think Midas Touch (fairy tale).

I wouldn't! Not unless the circumstances of my life changed dramatically.

Not for $2,000. I could spend that in minutes. I would for $10,000 though.

I agree with others that 2k is not enough.
1 mil... probably, but not a couple thousand.
