Hi!

I was wondering if anyone of you has ever broken a hairstick before? I've just broken my second one this week while trying a figure-8 bun and I'm getting the feeling I might be doing something wrong! The first one was a plastic one and the second one I broke was a wooden hairstick. They weren't very thick, so they might have been a little weak, and my hair is very heavy as well, but still :o. If you have any tips, you are very welcome :D.

I've broken plastic ones before - it's really pretty easy. Have you tried using a hair fork instead? I just started using one today and I love it. There's a seller on ebay right now that has raging deals on wooden hairsticks/forks from Hawaii.

Haha, Being almost exactly the same hairtype as you I can say yes yes my thick heavy hair has broken many hairsticks. I've even bought some in Claires accessories walked out of the store gone to put one in and broken it instantly!
Metal works, forks work and the thickest ketylos work, but only just.

I'm quite proud of how many hair accessories my hair can consume! Even though it's expensive

And Ragdoll! Inconceivable ;)

Hi, thanks for your replies! I think I'll try a metal fork then and hope for the best :D.

I've broken a few before but my hair is not that thick or heavy xD I've just gotten better at telling how much pressure it can take (aka if I feel it has to 'bend' too much, I loosen the bun before pushing it further)

The seller has sticks, too.

Try metal chopsticks, they're less expensive than metal forks. Or look at thrift stores for metal knitting needles. Here are Redheaded Raven's instructions for shortening and prettifying them: http://ravenscreations.com/making-hair-sticks/how-to-cut-aluminum-knitting-needles-for-hair-sticks/
