Recently, I've noticed that when I'm in a bad mood or I'm upset for any reason, I play with my hair, combing it, putting things in it, looking in it for splits- It's a way of release for me and it calms me down. Does anyone else here do this? Pretty sure I can't be the only one! ;)

I totally read this as *Bad Mods* handling hair!
I have never paid attention to my hair when I'm in a bad mood, unless it was a bad mood from a bad haircut! :D

When I am in a bad mood, I try not to touch my hair at all! :D This is mainly because when I am nervous or moody, I try to relax with a book. I'm afraid if I start touching my hair when I'm feeling sad or angry, I would cut it off because I would probably find more damage :D

When I am very stressed I notice that I scratch my scalp alot. It does not itch I just scratch it and then cause lots of damage. Not very wise so now I fiddle with something else in my hands or walk around. I feel what you are saying.

I play with the fly aways and will pull them out if I don't pay attention and stop myself. I also do look for splits.

I just get annoyed with it and do what I can to get it out of the way.

Well, if I'm only a little upset, then putting it up is a good idea. If I'm really stressed I will pluck out odd textured hairs. I find it relaxing but I have a halo of frizz I'm trying to grow out from that. The act of putting it up is relaxing and it prevents me from plucking out hair too.

I'm like that too! If I S&D when I'm in a bad mood then I seem to think everything is damaged when it is really fine, ie ends that I won't normally cut. I usually just put it up and find something else to do

Oh totally. I look for splits, brush, braid it...
I'm not the one who notices it though, haha.

I'm like the ones who try not to touch hair when they are in a bad mood. When I must touch my hair (like combing and bunning in the morning) I end up breaking hairs and can't bun it properly, getting in a really bad mood...

When I'm in a sad/depressed mood, I will definitely do things with my hair. Brush it slowly, wash it really well, spend a lot of time massaging in conditioners. If I'm really ticked off, then no. I'll put it up and try not to fiddle with it.

this one sounds like me .. sad/depressed = doing things for me and my hair .. but angry/moody - put it up and leave me alone ..

Yep. When I get really upset, I take my hair down- to hide behind, I guess? :p

Hmm...it depends on the bad mood. If I'm annoyed or bored, I often fiddle with and smooth the ends of my hair, especially if it's up in a peacock. If I'm sad or upset, sometimes I take it down and brush it deliberately to soothe myself, because brushing feels so relaxing.

When I was little I used to chew my hair. When I'm feeling very anxious I still catch myself with my hair in my mouth! Must STOP immediately!
Anyway, when I was in my teens (before my diagnosis of depression 4 years ago), I did what you might call a "Britney" and hacked off my hair with the kitchen scissors.
Won't be doing that again. I tend to stay away from scissors when I'm in a bad mood, lol! Prozac is such a wonderful thing. P.S. Can medication such as Prozac cause damage to hair? And if so, how can I counter-act it?

I try not to handle my hair when I'm in a bad mood. I'd end up bald. :(:p

I try to get my hair out of the way if I'm in a bad mood because that's when I'm more likely to rip a brush or comb through it.

Some medications can cause hair damage. Prozac can cause skin reactions that include hair loss, but all skin reactions together (rashes, etc) only show up in 3% of people who take it, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you see it happening. I suppose you could do things like caffeine based rinses or rooibos rinses that are supposed to help. There are also prescription things to prevent hair loss, but you'd have to talk to a derm or a hair specialist about that.

Well, whenever I'm in a bad mood I automatically go into benign neglect mode. I don't touch it at all, I leave it just open and let it be because I have other things to worry about. Also, I don't want to touch it in a bad mood because I might do something bad like detangle/brush it too roughly without caring about the "pop" and "snap" sounds.

Same here too. I pluck all the ones I don't think feel right. Its becoming a bad habit for me.:(

That's not so bad. When I'm in a bad mood, I want to cut my hair. :(
