Hello there. I need the advice and opinions from whom ever is willing to give it to me. :) Ok, here is what I was thinking of how to fix my hair for my fiancee (Jess ) brothers (James ) wedding in Oct. I'm aware in this photo the sock from the sock bun is showing. I didn't want to take it down. Re-curl it etc, etc..... so this was a trial and error. I also plan on making the the curls smaller. I was thinking either hair sticks, burgundy flowers, or crystal hair combs. My dress is black and so are my shoes. I will have a shawl that is burgundy. If you would like to see the dress for a better opinion just ask and I will post a picture. So if ya'll could tell me what you think of this hair style and what hair accessories would look best I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance!!!

The picture isn't working! Edit: Whoops, now it is. I think it's very pretty! It looks quite elegant. I think a flower would make it look stunning!

Thank you so much. I was watching the movie Emma the other day and she wore a hair style like this. Though the hair that hung down was in ringlets. By Oct my hair should be a bit longer so hopefully the curls will be too.

I agree - add a flower off center at the top of the bun and you have a lovely elegant up-do. Of course, it's pretty without a flower, too! Nice job!

Thank you ladies. I knew I could count on ya'll. :) My fiancee wanted me to get his mother to do it. I'm a very independent person and like to do things for my self. I think simple is best and just let my hair speak for its self.

I agree, do it yourself. And that's a very pretty style.
I don't want other people messing with my hair, who knows what they'll decide to say (or do)! "OH, you need to cut off most of this and donate it". "You're getting too old for that long hair." That would be an awful thing to have a future family member say, so don't give the chance.! :)
Who knows, by October your hair may be long enough that you don't need to fool with the sock!

Why not get a sock the same colour as your hair? Pantyhose would be pretty close, I should think!

I'm curious as to how it looks from the side and front... I mean it's lovely to behold from the back, but I'm worried that it's might appear too sleek from the front (instead of romantic as I think you're going for with the curls and reference to Emma).

you might also try adding a cord(s) or ribbon(s) the same color as your dress to the bun. If ribbon you might even get some that will curl and could flow down with your curls. I'd also suggest a touch of babies breath, real or fake to add to whatever flower you go with. You might even decide several smaller flowers/buds look better than one large. I'd suggest playing with it more until you are totally happy

I do have it slicked back because my bangs are at a very annoying length. Though after looking at Regency hairstyles they normally had bangs with soft curls that framed the face. I found this picture and I think I should do something like this along with the bun. What do you think?? Or maybe do the simple sock bun with accent curls around the face, bangs loose, and curly neck fuzzes embraced.

Thank you so much for your opinion. I didn't even think about babies breath. I do like the idea of the ribbon. I had even thought about glueing some small fake flowers to the ribbon its self and let it hang down. I plan on practicing this hair style quite a bit before the big day.

it's lovely, very victorian, i also think a flower next to the bun would give a finishing touch of colour :)

Sorry, but this hairstyle is completely wrong for the marriage of jess and james. Clearly the only acceptable 'do would be this one:

I like the idea of it, but I'm not too big on the sock bun. Of course, this is completely my own opinion and it certainly seems I am the minority, so disregard at will! I think I might like it better with a rose bun. And potentially pinning the curls up towards the bottom of the bun, not so that thedy are folded over, but more so it looks like the bun is coming out of the curls. And, I definitely agree on the flowers and face framing curls. I'm sure you'll look lovely in any case. :)

You can also do a soft, very romantic regency twist to it too, by splitting the front up just slightly to give it more flair.
I did a regency style 'do for a party in January and it came out amazing. I had to change the front a bit since I don't have bangs nor do I desire them anymore. Keep experimenting and I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful. Share pictures!
