I need the help of all you lovely ladies (and gents!) here on LHC to see how one would go about creating this hairstyle.

I've cosplayed Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender before; in fact, one of the reasons I'm growing my hair out is to play her better! :D

But this particular hair style is a bit of a challenge. Last year, I simply used a hair fall that fit over my bun and trailed down in a braid. This year, I bought some new hair falls (http://www.amphigory.com/hair_kanekalon_wave_switch.html (http://www.amphigory.com/hair_kanekalon_wave_switch.html)) to use, but I was hoping to get some opinions on how to do that little roll of hair vs. a regular bun. I got her little hair loopies down, but I would appreciate if anyone could suggest ways to create the little roll and somehow integrate the braided hair fall into that as well.

Or am I just dreaming that this is even possible? Gotta love those crazy anime hairstyles! :)

The first three links don't work. :(

Um. I'm not sure if I understood right but you want the hairfall to be 100% for the bun thing? No idea if this would work but I would suggest trying to do a very tight almost pincurl type thing with it, maybe use a lot of those U shaped pins or spin pins to keep it in shape. then use the braid thing below it. I was thinking you could just do one of those little "pull a ponytail just a teeny bit through the second time so it makes a tiny loop" type things and then braid the rest of the hairfall if that doesn't work, but you have a braid separate.

The links do not work for me either... it says it can't be viewed by the public.

What if you used one hair fall to create the bun and another/your own hair for the braid instead? That way you could create a really solid bun, pin it together, and then attach it to your head. Does that make sense?

Stupid links!

Here are the screenshots:

The reason I switched to the loose hair falls is cause the one that fit over my bun last year is too small now, i.e., the bun is too big. I was thinking about somehow bunning my hair with the hair fall looped around the base then braided, or something like that.
I just didn't know if there was any way to accomplish the roll look. It almost looks like it's wound around something.

Hate to say it Kaya, but the screenshots didn't work either. If you hotlinked them from the same server, they're probably still private?

I can see them now (before I couldn't).

I don't know how long your hair is, but I agree with allnight avenue, it looks easier to me doing the braid on your own hair (maybe with one of the falls to add length/volume) and use some of the fake hair for the bun. You could even make some kind of sock bun, maybe wrapping a soft ball with the hair and pinning it to your head.
You could do the spherical-sock bun (as in roll a sock into a ball, or use whatever other thing that can do the same function) with your own hair, but I'd think it'd be more difficult to do it directly on your own head. Maybe a regular, albeit small, sock bun with the fall pinned behind covering the "hole" and then going into the braid?

What an interesting style. I think I'd separate the accent pieces first, and then do a low half-up chignon (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=182) for the 'bun' part, and then braid the rest. :)

i somewhat agree with this. if your hair is thick enough that is. i personally love Katara and her hair do' and have wanted to try it myself one day :D but i'd do a low half up and some sort of bun that would look similar but i dont have any suggestions. maybe the sock roll someone mentioned earlier. then braid the bottom half and attach the loopies on either side with a pin. just stick the pin in the side of the bun. hope that helps and i;d love to see some pics :D
