question for people who put in an accent stripe

Where do you put it and how big do you make it? I did a test purple stripe of gentian violet a few weeks ago, just a tiny stripe at the back underneath of my head. I thought it would at least show up in braids but it doesn't show at all! I want to make it big enough to see, but I don't want to be ridiculous. Thanks!

also...my friend just came back from holiday with a black accent stripe in the back of her naturally blonde hair and it looks really good! it is taken from hair just above the nape and it is maybe 2 inches wide

When I had a purple stripe in my hair I did it at my part, a couple inches from my hairline. When I parted my hair on the side you could see it, but when I parted down the middle it was pretty well hidden. Something like in this picture, but only one stripe.

One of my favorite people with a bit of purple is the author Barbara Katz Rothman. She has gray hair and a lovely purple stipe.

I had a stripe of Manic Panic Purple Haze in my hair for a couple months after Halloween. It was about an inch and half wide? I liked it, but don't know if I'll do it again since I'm job hunting.. =(

I have a bleached stripe about 2 inches wide just to the left of my parting, it runs back to my crown.
I can either part on the left and show the colours or part to the right and it hides underneath as just a flash. It's fun to be able to change the colours, its currently pink and purple but I have many different versions over the years. There in my album if you wanted a peek. :)
EDT: Although thinking about it mines pretty loud!

Ah! Great ideas. I was thinking of putting it just in the back of my head; but forward and to the left or right of my part so I can hide it if needed seems interesting too. Pink Sara I love the flashy look in your album! I'd have to do something like that with some other color than purple I think. (for my hair color)

I've just played with clip-in color extensions a few times, but it seems you need to put it somewhere near the edge of your hair if you don't want it completely hidden. Somewhere on the hairline or in the part, as others have said. Behind an ear seems like a nice possibility to me.

I put it in the side, a flash of colour. So your parting can hide it if needs be but it is still noticible.
