Newly released stills from the movie "Snow White and the Huntsman" show that Kristen Stewart is not playing a Disney princess... but of course my eyes so straight to her braid! Is this a lace braid? French? Dutch? Waterfall?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Allo_Worm/snowwhite.jpg

As with many movies, it's probably safe to assume that Kristen is wearing a wig. But if a wig can do that, so can my hair!

I vote for a Dutch braid. And for the fact that it's probably wrapped somehow rather than done in a lace braid technique.

All I can say is - Hell YEAH!!! :cheer: Love it!!

It looks kind of like an English braid that's laying on top of her head.

This is one heck of a re-interpretation. Since when is Snow White a warrior? I can see other fairy tale heroines being warrior-types with a bit of reworking, but Snow White's about as anti-warrior as you can get. She played housemaid to a bunch of dwarves, for cripes sake. Not to mention bought pretty things like combs and ribbons from her stepmother-slash-witch-in-disguise, before being slain by a poisoned apple. That's pretty girly and naive, really.

Hey, the male eye wants something too :D. Just look at the fight scene in the latest G.I. Joe movie. And yes, I still wonder how they even did that when it must have been choreographed.

She must have just came out of battle and did not have time to fix her hair lol....

I do like the braid tho very pretty.

Is this going to be one of those feminist reinterpretations of a fairy tale a la this sort of thing (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=feminist+fairy+tales&x=0&y=0)?

At any rate, I like the hair. And I like Kristen Stewart despite what other people say about her.

Finally! :p

The film looks interesting, too; I quite like re-imaginings of fairy tales.

Now this is an interpretation of Snow White that I really enjoyed.

Snow Glass Apples. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xlt30OzXnLY)

Written by Neil Gaiman and performed by Bebe Neuwirth. Snow White's not exactly sweet & innocent in this one... :D

I love this hairstyle, and I have to admit I have a massive girl crush on KStew, especially her hair. What's interesting is that she's naturally a dark ash blonde! So not a real brunette, but looks excellent as one.

Glad to see she's went back to the long hair again, even though its probably extensions at the minute.

If it's a Dutch braid, is the hair only being taken from the front (forehead side)? I want to have a go at this but I just don't know where to start.

I didn't know she was naturally a blonde, although I have seen pictures of her with blonde hair.

I'm thinking there are extensions in there as well. As had already been mentioned, Kristen doesn't seem to have especially thick hair.

Fake english braid pinned to the head. None of the hair in the picture is gathered...and I very seriously doubt she could get that thickness from her natural hair all the way around if it's taken from underneath.

Personally, I think she's rather plain and her acting doesn't really make up for it, but that's just me. [shrug]

Maybe she's now forcing the dwarves to clean their house themselves, with that sword I'm sure they are willing to do it themselves now ;)
(Seeing her armor I just assume she is carrying a sword :P)

Wow, that is lovely. I've never seen Twilight, et. al, but I think Kristen is really beautiful. I always feel for her when I see her do live interviews because she seems so awkward and shy and I think she gets a bad rap because of it. I can relate.

Lunna: it looks like small sections are twisted tightly so that they curl in on themselves and then pinned down. Probably done with extensions though.

Have you ever read Fables? There, her true backstory includes the dwarves being rapists and Snow White learning fencing from Prince Charming so she can slaughter them one by one.

The original fairy tale certainly doesn't have a badass protagonist, but I can see a kind of twisted re-imagening working very well. I don't have high hopes for Kristen Stewart, though, I don't really like her as an actress.

Agreed. She's pretty and all, and the picture certainly looks nice, but any movie with her doesn't sound very promising to me. I can't take seriously anyone who always talks as if she's about to puke. I really don't understand how she's making it as an actress...

On a lighter note, for those of you who can't stand her acting and mannerisms, check this out:

To me it looks like a fake English braid. But I think that if someone has thick enough hair for it they could lace dutch braid the front and it looks as though it would start on the left side around and underneath the crown and back to the left. It seems to me that the rest of the hair is in a french ladder. I say french ladder because that is the only braid I know of that would give the ends something even close to the tail she has. But I could be completely wrong.

I agree with the others that say it is a fake English braid. It doesn't look like any hair has been braided from the crown and that amount of hair (plus the extra volume behind the braid at the crown) makes it unlikely that it's real. You could do this by making an English braid from the middle section of your hair (leaving hair at the crown and nape) wrap it around your head and then hide it under the hair at the crown. Then you'd have to do something creative with the rest of the hair, but I'm not sure what...

Okay, so I was looking up different kinds of braids. I found a 1 strand pretzel braid.

http://findingbraids.com/number9pretzel.html (http://findingbraids.com/number9pretzel.html)

I think that would be a better fit for the back of the head. Judging by the profile.

the hair is fantastic! maybe i'll do something like this - with less wispies today :D

I just came back from seeing this film. There are some very pretty braided updos shown on the Evil Queen! Kristen's battle hair didn't look much like that photo in the OP of this thread to my eyes, the battle hair was very different than that... but I guess we'll see once others have seen it. I hope some people who are better at braiding than I am will come up with tutorials for some of the very pretty braids in the film!

I *loved* SWATH.
The movie isn't the best ever made, but it was right up my street (much like Red Riding Hood), and some of the hairstyles are AMAZING! The style KS wears on this poster, however, doesn't feature in the movie at all.

And what, pray tell, is wrong with that? After all, Snow White is a perfect singular story that hasn't been retold over several cultures and civilizations:rolleyes:

That is a pretty hairstyle. I am looking forward to this move. I just have to mention a pet peeve however and that is that Snow White was not invented by Disney. Unless a movie is made by Disney Snow White is a fairytale princess and not a Disney princess. Disney only took and exisiting fairytale and made a animated movie adaption of it. :)

This is the actual hairdo that you see during the movie. it is very different from the promotional picture from the op. I think this is more realistic and some girls here who are good at updo's would be able to do it!

I think if it is a Dutch, not a fake pinned on English plait it's probably done cornrow style, ie hair only added to the middle strand, which means you don't get obvious addition points like with ordinary lace braids.

Very true. I read the Grimm version recently and although it mentions that Snow White lives with seven men, it doesn't mention dwarves anywhere.
