I used my color pencils in a french twist updo for a nice birthday dinner with my family. I think it turned out really awesome, and I just had to share:

I picked what I thought of as peacock-ish colors, and arranged them in a peacock-esque arrangement. I'm thrilled with the colors, and french twists are my new favorite hairdo!

After I went to my belated birthday dinner, I decided to go out to a club for the first time! (I just turned 21!) My friend called after I had been waiting at the bar for him and informed me that he couldn't come. I decided that I wanted take the opportunity to meet new people and let my hair down a bit. So I went to the bathroom and literally let my hair down! :p

I LOVE how it turned out! I think it's a wild, sexy rocker look! And I'm so happy about my curls staying intact for so long. Before I gave up cones, my hair would get stringy and gross on the third day, and even more so if I put it up in buns & updos. Now my hair gets even better the longer I wear it! :cheese:

So, are any of you guys going to go out and pick some color pencils for your updos? I want to see some pretty color combos!

PS- there are more pics in my album! I also linked the pics to their place in the album :)

Very creative, and very beautiful! Just look at what he missed by not showing.

I haven't done a twist in years, and I do have some colored pencils. I don't know if I could pull that off at my age though, it might look more weird than creative on me. I do love the peacock colors idea though, I love peacock feathers and decorate with them.

Did you do any special sanding at the part where you sharpen the pencil? The last time I used a pencil in my hair, it really snagged and pulled out a hair or two.

For some reason, my color pencils didn't have many splinters or a much of a gap between the 'lead' and the wood. I think it's because the color lead and the wood has a different texture than the graphite pencils. Or maybe regular pencils are made more cheaply? Or it could just be that I have not sharpened them in a while (they have been living in a pencil case for a long time.)

You guys should check your color pencils, tell me if it's just my set or if it's everyone's that are non-splintery and don't have the gap that regular pencils do.

This is pretty! I have tried french twists a zillion times and can't do it. Do you have a trick? Are those pencils the only things securing your hair? Maybe it holds better in curly hair...?

EDIT: Never mind, I saw the video you linked in the french twist thread. I'll try that. Thanks!

I always fail at french twists.

Yours is very nice! I like the pencils. And I'm impressed at the curls holding up! :D

I bet you could paint the ends of the pencils with clear nail polish to reduce snagging. It should come right off with a pencil sharpener should you want to use them as pencils again.

:D thanks guys for all the compliments! I was quite pleased with it. The guys I was sitting next to at the bar said I looked totally different, and I took that as a very good thing :p

Yes, it was discussed in this thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=74403) that I could coat them with nail polish. I chose not to, because my color pencils don't have a huge gap between the colored "lead" and the wood, definitely nothing like on my regular graphite pencils. The wood isn't as splintery, either.

And to anyone asking about how I did my french twist, I found this video on another thread and I think it's AWESOME (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlPt81TzFn0). I've never been able to do the french twists with bobby pins like they show in other videos on youtube, sticks are the only way i can figure it out.
