Hey,
I've got some fresh lavander flowers. Any recipes for hair/skin involving them?
What would happen if I put some flowers in my oil and just left them there?
What about making a skin toner (and making it last for a while)?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't used them alot but I have put them in oil it worked pretty well for me. I also use the oil for a bug repellent. Add some tea tree and citronella plant leaves. I put them all into a jar of oil and let them sit for a couple of week's. It works pretty good but needs to be reapplied often.

Oh I also used sew them -after drying into a small stuffed animal for my children to snuggle. They are almost all grown now but and they always call home when they smell Lavender (now that is a Pavlovian response!)

I've seeped some in oil before as well, but whenever I get my hands on some (I don't purposefuly go searching for them, as I'm not a big lavender fan) I will seep them in Apple Cider Vinegar to tone down the harsh smell of it. Plus, lavender is good for the scalp. :}

How long does it last in ACV? how do you do it exactly? thanks.

naturechild, thanks for the bug repellent idea. when you put them in oil, you just put the flower in? thanks

I have used just the flowers for a perfume base but for the bug repellent I use the full stem and leaves they have a real pungent scent and bugs hate it, I love it.

I use a glass container (a POM glass and lid to be exact LOL) and I fill it with ACV, then I take about a 2/3 cups worth of lavender and put it in the glass, too. I put the lid on, shake it up a bit, and leave it on the kitchen counter AT LEAST a week, but longer the better.
When it smells good enough that DH doesn't say, "yuck, it still smells like ACV" I strain the buds out using a tea leaf filter (got mine at the dollar store). Then I use that for my Happy Scalp Rinse. :} Each POM sized batch lasts me a month or so. I've done this a few times, but currently I'm using it without lavender, because I'm out.

Now that it's summer, our Farmers Market is back open, and when I buy some soaps from the soap lady, she always gives me some fresh sprigs.

I AM GOING TO TRY THAT!

My DF hates ACV but my hair loves it. I will be trying this tonight

It was DH's "your hair smells" comments that led me to try that as well LOL

Here's what I do with mine:
*Boil them in water & add to bath water, or use for hair rinse. I love the way this makes the house smell!
*Sachets quick & easy-stuff a knee high or the leg of an old pair of hose for your lingerie drawer.
* Add to cornstarch & a bit talc-keep covered in a dark cool place for aweek or so, then sift out the blooms. Yummy smelling stuff.
