I take 1g of MSM a day (if I don't forget... owner of a swiss cheese brain). I take it for my joints, as I'm a semi-hypermobile jointed cutz, but the hair benefit is nice too. All I can say is that it doesn't hurt. My shedding is lower now but then I have changed a lot of things. Scalp oiling and massage likely helped a lot in that area too. So I can't attribute it to MSM only.

I am curious about MSM as well. Does it help with regrowth of hair?

I take it everyday too and I agree that it can't hurt. The question of if it helps is another issue altogether. I can't really say. Pregnancy has boosted my growth all on its own, so it's hard to gauge right now.

I'm taking it as well, and from what I've read, it should definitely help with growth. I started about a month and a half ago and I'm not sure how long it takes before any real results are observed...

I take a hair & nails vitamin that has MSM and biotin, among other things, and it is very helpful. I've been taking them for about 3-4 years.

I take about 3.5 g daily for many months now and I use it to reduce shedding. For this it really works. I am not sure if it helps to grow faster...

I believe it's an ingredient in GNC's Ultra Nourish Hair (what I called in my journal GNC Stinkypills). I took it for 6 months and had some good growth; I'm doing a comparison now with a different hair vitamin.

Results when I know what they are. :)

I read once that for every mg of MSM you should take equal Vit C so I have done this ever since. I don't have the original link about that but Google it and it might still be out there.

Also since MSM only stays in your system about 12 hours (so I read) you should take your dose divided into two and take at opposite ends of the day.
Nowadays I take a 800g tablet which I cut in half and take morning and night with 500mg Vit C each time. I cannot say for sure whether it has helped my hair growth, but it certainly helps my joints!

Hope that helps!

I've taken MSM for over a month. I can see my new growth from the root because I had previously colored my hair. I've noticed no difference from my growth or quality of hair over this past month.

My theory on any type of supplement is this. People who have some kind of deficiency are likely to notice a big difference but those whose bodies had no deficiency to begin with are unlikely to notice much of a difference.

I don't intend to continue the MSM once my bottle is finished.

What exactly is MSM? I didn't find anything about it (maybe I'm just blind...)

hi
MSM stands for Methyl Sulphonyl Methane, and this is what it is all about:

I take one MSM a day....I think I've taken it mostly every day for about a year. It doesn't seem to have increased my hair growth, but it definately has an effect on shedding. The times I've run out of it for more than a few days, I've noticed my shed rate go up.

There's some MSM in my daily hair vitamin. At two points last year, I tried taking single MSM tablets along with the hair vitamin. (once in late spring, once in autumn) Both times my growth slowed down a lot. I can't comment on shedding bcause it's not a problem I have.

Im sorry if someone already asked this but...does anyone know if MSM has any effect on hair growth when applied externally? Like massaged into the scalp? I havent seen anything on google about applying it externally except for on hurting joints. :P

I take 1 to 2 tsp of MSM everyday with water and lime. I pretend it's Gin and tonic water.:cheese: But if I don't take it for a few days I can barely walk. I have notice it helps with my shedding and growth for nails.
Hi Jenny I have used MSM in my hair potion. I do think it helps but I have only been using it topically for around a month or so.HTH
