What exactly are underlying pigments? Is it like the color that comes out when the sun shines on the hair or something? Is that how you can tell what yours are?

My natural colour is dark brown, my hairdresser told me I have underlying red pigments. I think that chart looks about right.

Thanks, I wish I could go to a hairdresser, but I'm wondering if there is a way to find out for yourself on your own?

I think it has something to do with the colors that show up when you bleach hair.

Maybe one of our stylist members will show up and tell us?

Yeah it's the tone that first shows up when you bleach. If your (virgin) hair does through a red stage (or dark orange) it's a brunette shade. Blonde hair goes straight to orangeish yellow and yellow tones.
