I have this huge problem with getting my hairs ripped off by the metal pieces in my glasses.

I'm sure many people have this problem, but I feel like I break a lot of hairs around my face every day because of this. Any idea how to get around it?

Since my hair is still so short I've tried to push the hair in front of my face back with a head band, but many of them escape and meet their demise in the hinge of my glasses anyway.

Hehe I just found a hair caught by the metal pieces of my glasses aaah. It doesn't happen too often though.. just.. really once in a while.
So no help here, sorry!

I don't get hinge-caught hairs, but I do often drag the hair over my ears a bit loose as I take off my sunglasses. The temples seem to have extra grip to stay put better, which I like when I'm wearing them, but not so much when they mess up my updo!

I have this problem, it helps that I can place all my hair up in a bun. Try wearing scarves to tie your hair back, you can fold them to be much thicker that a head band. Hope that helps.

My sunglasses do this unless I remember to be very careful taking them off.

I don't really have a solution for you, I just wanted to say that I can relate. It's only on my left side, I had a piece that never seemed to grow, and finally I realized it was the glasses that was breaking it off in that area. The only thing that solved it for me was switching to contact lenses.

I had this problem with my last glasses which had big nasty metal hinges.

Me being a rather scruffy person just taped the hinges with black electrical tape. It meant that I look a teeny bit more like a haphazard nerd and that my glasses wouldnt close... But I wear them all the time so that doesn't matter.

This worked for me but it depends on the type of glasses you wear and whether you mind taping them up hehe :D

Actually, I really did think about putting tape over the metal parts. I'm a huge nerd and work in a tissue culture lab to prove it, lol. I don't mind looking a bit more classical nerd.

This happened to me too when my bangs were shorter. Now that they're longer, it doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.

Instead of electrical tape, I have used heat shrink tubing to cover a rough area on a pair of glasses.

Right now I wear extremely flexible frames with no metal in them.

I find that if I am careful to put on and take off my glasses using both hands so that they are all the way straight helps - the hinge is completely closed, so there isn't anything to pinch the hairs. The only times I catch my hair are when I put them on or take them off one-handed.

I have pulled out hairs with my sunglasses, when I put them on top of my head and my hair is back in a bun. Not fun! I've been trying to be more careful recently, but sometimes it can't be helped.

If something on your glasses is catching your hair and tearing it, it generally means they're messed up. Misaligned, worn at the hinges so they don't open or close right, decoration trying to fall off... My hair has been eaten by pretty much all of them. In my experience, it's the decorative bits and bobs and plastic bits over metal frames that are most likely to eat my hair.

I usually wear all metal glasses because I find they don't wear out as quickly, and it's easier for me to tell when they're getting less smooth. My last pair lasted 4 years without eating hair, and the pair before that lasted at least that long.

For me it has been an issue with certain frames only. I've had two thin metal frames and they both snagged at my hair. After some years I developed an almost unconscious habit of pushing the frames towards my face from the side a bit to open up the hinge when I took the glasses of. It released any caught hair. I still do it occasionally even though I haven't even had that problem with my last three frames, that incidentally have all been thick and plastic.

I didn't feel that keeping my hair out of my face helped since mine is prone to escaping any means to confine it. I just had to learn to remember to be careful every time I took the glasses off.

I haven't had that problem lately. Some might be because I keep my hair back, but I suspect one reason is that in recent years I've been wearing primarily bold plastic frames rather than metal ones, and they just don't pinch hairs at the hinges in the same way.

If you like the thin drill-mount style frames, there are "hingeless" glasses available. Zenni carries some, though I haven't personally ordered from them before. (http://www.zennioptical.com/#/?q=hingeless)

I've had a similar problem... I tend to pull hairs out rather than damage them with glasses. It hurts :( My bangs are long enough to fit back in an updo so I don't have to put up with it now. I guess you just have to be really conscious when you go to take your glasses off or put them on... obviously thats easier said than done though.

Yeah, my frames are plastic but the metal pieces are very worn and I constantly have to tighten them. I really can't get new glasses any time soon. I've been mindful of how I'm putting them on and taking them off but I still snag a few throughout the day. Sometimes I can gently get the hair out before it breaks but often time I can't.

Waiting for the day when I have enough hair to get it all out of my face.
