I'm going against my normal practice and am posting a new thread while my previous one is still on the "Mane" Forum's 1st page :)

I did this today~ I got the idea from a picture I saw on the internet. I guess you could call it a zig-zag French braid? An "s" French braid? A "z"? Hmmm...

Anyway...here are some pictures:

I really like this look, actually, and so did everybody else apparently!
I went visiting at the hospital, and the nurses in the children's ward all wanted to know how I fixed my hair. :) I told them about the CWC and apple-cider vinegar rinse, too.
They were so excited and are going to try it all.

I love the braid! I've never seen one that zigzags like that before, very cool :)
I also love the butterfly clips, those are super cute :)

I tried to do this style a few weeks ago! :p

I failed miserably though. Not enough hair for me, I think.

I always enjoy looking at your hairstyles! You are so talented working with braids!
I have trouble just doing a French braid with my length of hair (waist & it is thin) it keeps getting tangled & getting into a mess, I finally just give up & put it in a bun.

Your hair is just to beautiful! Do you have any secrets to growing long hair??

Seeing this braid always makes me sad:rolleyes:. I wanted this hairstyle for my prom (which is an elegant banquet held when you finish the equivalent of high school here where I live). My classmate's mother could do it, so the girl promised me that she'll ask her mother to do it for me on the day of the prom. But she never did, and I was too shy to be pushy. So I made an appointment to a hairdresser, and just when I was off to the salon, the girl called asking if I was going to her place so her mom could make the braid. But since I was already on my way to the salon, I couldn't . The hairdresser did an updo I hated, she pulled and tucked at my hair:(. So I ended up disapointed by my pricey hairstyle. By the time I got home, I was so frustrated I started to cry...The prom was nice tough, I had a good time. But looking at the pictures from that night, I still hate the hair I had. It ruined the look.
This braid is very beautiful, especially with your shiny hair.:DI hope I can make it myself for my next prom (at the end of college), and since I have 5 more years in college, maybe my hair will be long enough to make the braid look nice. I have hope, now that I've found LHC.:cheese:

How do you do that? I can do french and dutch braids, but I have only ever managed one single braid straight down the middle. :p

Wow, that is really beautiful! I opened this thinking of the time I did two French braids with a zig-zag part in the middle--if that had the impressiveness of a hot-air-balloon ride, then this is like a rocket to Mars :) I will have to try a zig-zag braid once I get enough hair!

Oh lovely! I wonder if I could do that on my niece. . . I certainly don't have the skill to do it on myself. Amazing.

I always love your posts arc691 :D! Your amazing updos are what motivated me to try and go for terminal length because that means a larger canvas for my braids and buns :cheese::cheese::cheese:

Me too! I can do one or two braids easily but I've tried diagonal french/dutch with no luck. Anyone have any tips for diagonal or this beautiful zig-zag? Do you section the hair off first?

Thanks for sharing your style!

I'm so glad to hear that you liked my look~ it's one of those you're not sure will go over well, if you know what I mean :)

Jil and others asked how I did it~ well, I did not part my hair first. I started to the other day, but it just didn't work for me then.

So yesterday I started braiding above my left eyebrow, directing the braid straight across horizontally till I reached above my right eyebrow. When adding hair to the right-most strand (the side closest to my face), I tried to keep as close to my face as possible, and when adding hair to the left-most strand (side away from my face) I took little bits in what felt like a relatively straight line.

When I reached above my right eyebrow, I turned the braid and started doing the same thing, but back the other way, right-to-left instead of left-to-right.

When I reached behind my left ear, I turned again and directed the braid to behind my right ear, where I made a braided bun.

There, hopefully this is clear! :) If you can make it clearer, by all means feel free to add your explanations!

Good grief, you have so much hair, it is so beautiful and I am SO JEALOUS! My hair is sooooo bleedin' thin it drives me mad. Would love to have that kind of thickness, not to mention length!

It looks gorgeous, good job.
