Today I tried something different~ once I got all the bobby pins in the right place, it was actually comfortable and I didn't notice my hair at all!

It's a lot of pictures, I know!

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/terryandjody/Smilies%204/3jpg.jpg

I'll try and explain what I did~ hopefully it makes sense!

First, I braided two simple English braids, one on each side of my face. I made them high, with little sections of hair right over my eyebrows.

Then I made a ponytail with the rest of my hair.

I braided the ponytail in the Greek-key look~ one really small section and two larger sections, English braided.

About 2/3 of the way down this braid, I put a ponytail holder. I divided that remaining hair into two small English braids.

I folded the bigger Greek-key braid up underneath, then wrapped the two smaller English braids around the base of the ponytail and pinned them in place with bobby pins.

Then I took the two English braids from the front and brought them together underneath my "pony-braid." I criss-crossed them and wrapped them down the length of the folded Greek-key braid.

I still had long tail-ends left over from these two English braids, so I tucked them under the bottom of the "pony-braid" and brought them back up the underside, until I reached the top where I pinned them in place with bobby pins.

There, that's the best I can do! Hopefully you see what I'm getting at :o

Your style looks really good and I can't wait to try it out. I've been looking for updos that protect my ends but aren't buns since my head has been a little extra sensitive lately. The explanation also sounds pretty clear and easy to understand.

Thank you for your lovely pictures and instructions, Arc! It looks wonderful BUT I had qualms about pulling the those delicate front hairs back so tightly into the ponytail.

Also, the weight of that doubled braid, as magnificent as it is, would give me a headache! More power to you, if you can wear this style with ease!!

Wow! That is gorgeous! How well did it hold up during the day?

It held up beautifully, actually~ in fact, except for a little bit more fuzziness, it looked the same when I took it down last night as it did in the pictures. And I usually don't like ponytails, because they start to pull and give me a headache, but no such trouble with this look. It really didn't bother me at all, and I liked having my hair in something other than a bun, for a change.

I tried it ! Well, I kind of revisited it a bit to suit my preferences - and also, I forgot some things since I did it by memory, not having checked the thread again before.

- I took more hair than you did for the two small upper braids - not on purpose, just ... it happened. So the big braid ends up smaller but it's not a concern really.

- My main braid is a nape braid, no elastic - I usually can't get them uphead-pony-first-then-braid braids to stay up because of the weight, and it hurts, so I'm just warry of them. Plus I fear the damage done by ponytail holders up there, even though I use terry cloth ones .... I should have tried though, since it won't be up for long anyway, just to see. Oh well. It ends up quite different looking, mainly, the two upper small braids seem to "fall down" and do not have that cute movement, it's not as pretty as yours.

- I completely forgot about the Greek-style braiding. Another time !

- And last, I ran out of pins (I almost never use them so I don't have many anymore) so I didn't try to bring the end of the smaller braids up there to pin - I just let them hang down here.

So, my SO took pics with my phone, he wasn't very cooperative so I guess I have to be thankful he even did it. They're not great though, the profile one is against the light so pretty useless in terms of showing details. Oh well. Here's the pic that shows the thing best (2 more in my album) :

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2389&pictureid=107914

Oh and last thing - you will not believe what my redneck neighbour called the braid - has to do with a pony, but, let's say another part of his anatomy .....

I assure you it was not - the simple fact that I was able to do it tells it al ^^ I'm clumsy-fingered and couldn't french braid to save my life, I tried this hairdo cause it looked like something I'd be able to do at last :D . Not even that long to do, really it looks very intricate and sophisticated for the actual amount of work, that's another reason for it to be so lovely !

I did a modified version of this style, due to my hair being too short. :p

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=8202&pictureid=107984
I first did ponytail all my hair,
then I seperated the two small sections and braided them.
After that I braided the large section and folded it up. The rest was wrapped around the base of the ponytail and decorated with my Rose-Ponytailholder.

I crisscross wrapped the two small braids around the large one and secured them with bobby pins.

At the end I added the claw clip for decoration and to keep the end looking nice. :D

Thank you Arc for inventing such a lovely hair style. :blossom:

Finally one I could do with my very limited braiding skills. ;)

Can you please explain what a Greek braid is? I want to try this style, but I haven't been able to find anything...

TIA!

Sure!

As I see it, the Greek-key braid is exactly like a regular English braid, but with one difference. When you separate your hair into three sections, rather than making each of those sections the same thickness, you make one really small section and two large sections. Then you braid them together like usual in an English braid. If your little section starts running out of hair before the end of your braid, you can borrow a little bit from one of the other larger sections. (That's what I do, at least.)

I hope this helps! I learned this from a girl here on the forum. I'll try to find the link to her picture and post it on this thread.
