I feel like getting pastel pink hair and need advice

Hello LHC's :waving:

To make a long story short I'm young and want pink hair! Nothing like bright pink or something (nor my complexion nor my style go with that), but a more pale and candyfloss rose hair.

I've been think about the ideal colour for me and it will have some pale rose-orange (80-20) hues and/or maybe a bit of pale lavander also.

I will show you some inspirational pics so you could see what I want.

The thing is my hair is a medium brown. My pics are all like an year old but the colour is the same. I have waist length hair when stretched and almost when dry and wurly, my shorter layers are about BSL. I still want to have longer hair - at least all one length at waist or tailbone. I can wait a bit more but I don't want short hair right now.

So, I'll still think a bit more about this but I have some questions to do:

1- I guess I will need to bleach like crazy and then tone it to white. I heard about coconut oil helping with damage but don't find anything... Also, it's better to bleach all at once or gradually? Some other tips to minimize the damage?
(also, anyone who did something similar? some stories?

2- If someone bleach the hair how do curls react to that? And waves? And the rest of your texture?

3- Is if possible to grow colored hair? Like, still gaining length this way?

Any other opinion, advice or help would be appreciated.

I wanted to dye my hair pink about a year ago, and I resisted the urge for all of my head for a compromise: I bleached and colored the hair at my nape pink. I had it done at a salon, and it did ultimately damage my hair under there, but it has survived, and it is still growing.

I think you might be able to do this without tons of damage, but I think the process will need to go slowly... like maybe bleach it, then tone, then baby it with coconut oil, before you do it again.

Or go gradually with just a couple sections...

I have ashy blonde/light brown hair, so bleaching for me isn't too severe, but I think as your hair looks darker than mine, it could be more damaging.

I would say give it the two week rule and then try...

I just don't know that you would be able to pull it off without a decent amount of damage. That said, I'm sure it depends on how strong your hair is and the current condition. :)

Like the PP suggested, you may want to try doing this underneath your hair (I, personally, love that look) and just seeing how you like it and how your hair adapts.

From what I have read before, you don't actually need to get your hair white white or tone it. Even if there are some yellow undertones left the pink dye will cover over it.

I currently have pink highlights in my hair. :) You do have to bleach it to a gold or yellow. You shouldn't need to tone. I have to redo the color every 5-7 washes as I use a semi color.

There is a bunch of lovely ladies on there who can help you achieve your colour with minimal damage. They'll suggest that you gradually bleach your hair either with weekly/fortnightly bleach baths or a full bleaching once a month with lots of heavy conditioning inbetween. The coconut oil is that you put it on your hair before bleaching to minimise damage. You'll have to bleach to a light blonde then tone away most yellow tones. You can pick a pink dye of your choice and dilute it with white conditioner, quite heavily too to achieve a pale pink. As it is a pale shade you're after it will wash out quickly.

You will encounter some damage but you can minimise it by going slowly and carefully. It is still possible to do this and grow your hair but you'll have to be more careful with it and it may grow slower than normal.

I would perhaps recommend going to a hair stylists or colouring website or visit a salon, as we do not have many colour professionals on this forum - more people who know how best to minimise damage and grow hair long.

Some of the pictures you linked are wigs.

1. Your probably going to have to bleach your hair twice to lighten it to the point where you can get the colour you want, you'll probably also want to use a white toner. I personally do use coconut oil in my hair before bleaching and I tend to dilute a little cone free conditioner into the bleach. I haven't noticed the coconut oil having any positive effect but the conditioner seems to help the hair a little. To be honest if you've not used bleach before you'd be best going to a hairdressers to get this done.

2. I have waves about 2a/2b, I personally find that they do not behave very well for a week or so after after bleaching, tend to get a bit limp and frizzy, buts thats not to much of a problem since once it's bleached you just have to maintaine the roots, you probably will find that you don't have to bleach the length again to maintane a colour, you'll just have to redye it. To ease the frizz problem I tend to coat the length in coconut oil and braid it, then leave alone, till my next wash.

3.I've been dying and bleaching my hair shade of pink and red since LHC and in the space of a year I've managed to go from shoulder to just scraping BSL now. You just need to make sure you're bleaching your hair as little as possible, I only ever bleach my roots every 2-3 months and I last did the entire length at christmas.

The awesome thing about getting a pale colour: Once you get your hair bleached the lightness you need, you can create a gloss with a deposit-only dye in your normal conditioner, and then you can maintain your colour with every wash, hassle free.

I definitely agree, I think you should consider a compromise. If you only highlight part of your hair, you can minimize damage, and you won't have to worry about wrecking ALL of your hair. It would also make it easier to maintain length if you keep some/most of your hair virgin.

I'm a really big fan of colored highlights. I reeeallyyy like Joss Stone's, and they would be similar to the color you're looking for (just a lighter shade. AND her hair is wavy too, so it could give you a good idea of what yours could look like :)

A fellow LHCer has died the nape of their hair here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=7629&pictureid=102909), and I think it looks really good. I think ashke50 has also done the tips of her hair purple, and that looked cool (I saw the picture of her tips in her signature, you should ask her about it if you are interested.)
