Where can I buy hair sticks? Do I have to buy them online? I've looked in Sally's, Target, WalMart, and Kroger and can't seem to find them. Please help! Need hair sticks!

Welcome to your new addiction! A few of us have bought the hairfork/stick set from the seller at the top of the page on ebay, they're cheap.

Claire's has them sometimes.

You could also hunt down some chopsticks. Paint those suckers up and you will be good to go.

I only have 1 actual set of hair sticks that I bought ages ago. What I usually use in my hair are pointed chopsticks (short-ish ones) and knitting needles. My favorites, though, are my size 7 rosewood knitting needles, which I bought at Hobby Lobby. They have a knobby end which are very pretty.

Remember, just because it doesn't say it's a hair stick, it doesn't mean you can't MAKE it one.

I've seen some pretty ones on Amazon, and if you do a google search, you will find loads of sites that sell them.

Good luck!

I found some brown timber chopsticks that, when cut down, make lovely hairsticks. I like to just use one at a time. I also found some plastic ones at a hair supply shop. Just look in random places, you never know what you might find. You may not like using them, so chopsticks are a good start.

yep, I made mine out of wooden chopstick that I shortened and sanded. I've added wire and beads to the ends to decorate and some are painted. It's a really easy thing to shorten them... then sand sand sand away all the imperfections!

My suggestion is to make your own. I simply collect the snap apart ones, my fiance then cuts them down to size, rounds one end and sharpens the other. Then paints them and tops them off with a top coat of clear nail polish. Simple, easy, and cheap. My sweetie made the one for me in my avi. Hop that helps!

Have a look at the self made hairtoys thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131) for some inspiration. There are many easy and cheap ways to make your own individual hair toys.

I've found mine, in general, quite by accident.

I can say that Long Hair Loom webmaster makes them, and you can order from her. You can get the beaded tops customized in color, etc, too.

Probably the most happy accident occurred when I was in Manhattan. I had gone to the GM salon one day during my 4 day visit, and saw this neat-o stick of metal, with a circular decorative element. Then the day after I happened to visit the Asian Museum, and saw the exact same stick, so I bought it and have a set of 2. Serendipity.

A hit on eBay for search term, wooden hair fork.

mei fa hair sticks, I have a few -- they're nice. Have a good finish, and have lasted years for me.

Lots of sticks, combs, etc, on eBay.

Etsy probably, too.

I get most of mine online. As others have mentioned, you can get them sometimes at Claire's or Icing, but I've not been impressed with the quality. I know I've found plastic ones at Walgreen's in the past, but I'm not aware of any they're currently carrying.

I've also been known to buy non-disposable chopsticks and cut them down to a shorter length, filing the bottom to a nice point. (I prefer the results I get doing this by hand, but I know some use a pencil sharpener.) If you can find them, children's chopsticks are a nice length to use as-is.

Thanks, everyone, for all the helpful suggestions! There are so many choices and options! I like a lot of the sites that were suggested but I agree with a lot of you who said it would be a good idea to make them (see if I even like using them first...and get creative!).

Besides buying online, I have actually bought most of mine in claires or their sister store (cant remember what its called) - they usually have a big selection of hair toys in there.

I'm guessing you mean Icing! They have some there.

There are plenty of links to hair sticks and other hair goodies in the Hair-toy Links (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=13927) thread :)

Strange, I haven't had any luck at all with Claires / Icing in several years. They have hair accessories, but it's been forever since I've seen the hair sticks. They used to have tons of them back when my hair was too short to wear them . Oh well, I keep looking.:o

Colored pencils make for adorable hairsticks, too. Just be careful about snagging where the "lead" meets the wood.

Sally's has them, the are the plastic ones but very sturdy, they have a spinner rack with other hair toys right where you walk in, thats where I found mine, I know all the Sally's stores are probably different but maybe you ask them to order some in, I'm sure if they know your gonna buy them they'll get them for you....they come in 2 pair packs

Too bad I don't work a block from Chinatown in San Francisco anymore. I didn't use hairsticks then but I know that the tourist shops were loaded with some very fancy chopsticks. I've seen quite a few on eBay too.

The hair toy addicts thread is great for finding shops. Over in the conventional products you can find links to lots of stuff. I'm going to go practice with a pencil before I order though.

If you want to turn a pencil into a hairstick, put some nailpolish on the tip, that solves the problem of snagging. Clear if you want it to show what it is, in a colour that matches the pencil's coat if you want to hide its true nature.

In case you want to retransfigurate it into a pencil, all it takes is a pencil sharpener.

I bought my first hair sticks at an Ulta Beauty store.
I was just about to post the same thing! I always find hairsticks at Ulta. Check out the clearance section in the back where you're likely to find a big container of assorted, marked down hair toys.

Check out this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=73296) thread. (Some super-cheap hairsticks on ebay that are really quite pretty)

Also, etsy has quite a nice selection. I personally like Quecraft (http://www.etsy.com/shop/quecraft?section_id=6183712&order=price_asc&page=1) myself, since her hairsticks/forks are also reasonably priced, and quite pretty.

Hair sticks are the only things that don't give me headaches. I have a wooden one I bought in mexico years ago. I also have used japanese chopsticks:)

I decided to make a hairstick today with a pencil. I sanded the paint off, painted it with fingernail polish, and am going to glue some beads to the top. I'm waiting for it to dry now.

Hereabouts the ultimate fashion seem to be pencils with a Swarovski-style crystal attached to the end. Dunno if they are around in other parts of the world, too. These make funky hair sticks, especially the plain black ones...

My hair sticks come from the craft store (Joann's or Michael's, or even Walmart) they are double pointed needles, you'll find them with the other knitting needles and they usually come in packs of 5.

The best thing about those is that if you want to you can bend them in half and make some killer giant hairpins. Some of the other members around here have done it. I've been wanting to try, because even my "large" hairpins from Sally's are getting too small for my monster bun.

We were just talking about using color pencils as hairsticks on another thread, and i suggested maybe paintbrushes for those artsy days, or even toothbrushes :) Just a thought if some hairtoys are too expensive:( As it happens to me, wanting the most expensive ones.

I've been sadly depressed by the expense of all the pretty hairsticks.

However, as I've discovered lately, it's actually quite easy to carve some of your own out of a dowel, or to cut down a chopstick, coat it, and put a bead on the end. So it's actually quite easy to get some nice looking hairsticks for cheap--a whole dowel only costs like 60 cents, and I can easily get 6 out of one. Come over to the self-made-hairtoys (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131&page=112) thread and check it out!

Well, I did find a seller in China that had some really cheap hairsticks.
http://stores.ebay.com/Beauty-Story-Flagship/sticks-/_i.html?_fsub=1184896013&_sid=111327583&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

I admire the craftiness but I don't think I'm that talented. I'll string beads for jewelry but I'm short on all the tools to do hairsticks.
