I was looking through the thread full of gorgeous pictures of black hair, and after the thread about growing out ash/dark blonde hair I thought we should have a thread for us blondes, too! (I know there's a thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=6310) for discussing blonde hair care, but may we have a separate one for pictures?) There are so many different shades that vary so much with different lighting, and they're all so pretty in different ways. So, I'd love to see your blonde hair, whether it's natural or chemical. :) Bonus points for different lights. ;)

To start us off, here's how my natural colour changes.

Far from a window vs standing right by it:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=8201&pictureid=106996 http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=8201&pictureid=107012

Outside, on a cloudy day:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=8201&pictureid=107005 http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=8201&pictureid=107006

And finally, inside in not-quite-direct sunlight it can look really light.

Now you!

Guess I can't crop evenly. :p Anyway, it's really overcast today- my hair is usually a little more blonde than is showing.

shweedie, justgreen- your pictures are so nice! Do you have a self-photograph method? Or maybe just some understanding bystanders?

Cool pictures! Lilli, that's really nice; I love the shading. And what a lovely updo! Sweedie, your hair color is really cool. Almost strawberry blondish in some lights. :D Justgreen, that's exactly what my hair looks like... in my dreams. lol

Mine changes a lot depending on the light, whether you're looking at the underside or canopy, and, uh, how clean it is.

ugh: how do I get pictures from the albums to show up without the link? Should I just upload straight from photobucket?

I have incredibly moody blonde hair. It can be anywhere from ultralight brown to honey blonde. It can also be dark venetian blonde to medium strawberry. I do not CO because it kills the color. I'd be curious how other blondes CO successfully.

My avatar pic from 2007 in direct sunlight. Attached is a photo I posted on the 'photoshop your hair' thread. This may be the darkest and reddest it gets.

Spidermom I love your silvery blonde hair!

I'm growing out dyed blonde hair, but the roots appear to be ash blonde.

This was the last time I had my hair all natural. You can see that the roots are darker and ashier than the length.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7552&pictureid=99584

This was when I had only Sun-In in my hair but you can see my true color peeking out from the underside. This was when my hair was at it's prettiest I think. I had just started co-washing and properly taking care of it.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7734&pictureid=101353

Then I for some reason went thru a cycle of trying to dye it different colors so it would be easier to grow out and dyeing it again when the color went too brassy. Whew, it really damaged my hair, but I'm just letting my natural color grow and not care how brassy the dyed part gets.

These are my roots in shadow- ( is it just me or is the left side darker than the right?):
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7921&pictureid=106396

lapispimpernel - heh, no particular method, really. For the ones from the back I use the timer and set the camera on a shelf or something, and for the others I just turn my head and hold the camera at what I think is a good angle. :) (Love the pencils!)

luthein, your hair seems really cool! Amazing how blonde can look that shade of red.

Mine varies between pretty much golden brown to much lighter blonde depending on lighting (and which part of the hair you look at, the roots are darker than the ends). A nice example of the difference flash makes is below.

I know ya? My roots may have been still a little wet from the shower when I took that picture though. And I think Schweedie's hair also has a pretty dramatic change from shadow to light. I wouldn't mind it if the shadow didn't make the fact that I'm growing out my hair from dye so darn obvious. :/

Heartgoesboom, I actually lightened my hair very gradually. If you check out my albums, you'll see that I actually started off with a lot of auburns and red, and then slowly kept lightening and toning my way up to beach blonde. It took over a year to go from jet black to golden blonde with platinum highlights.

All of the pictures are taken back to back, in natural daylight but no sunshine, and show this much variation!

I need this thread, I struggle with being a blonde. I went to a salon to look at those color tufts and a stylist came to help to hold the swatches next to my roots and she told my hair was level 8 natural blonde with some darker hair in the underneath layers. And she told me it was only going to get blonder in the sun. Well, obviously :)

I was a light blonde kid and I thought my hair had darkened a lot, in fact I think it grew in much darker after taking chemo(for Crohn's not cancer)... I've been dyeing my hair a lot and it's only been natural in my adult life for a very short while when I shaved and then it was hard to tell the color but I could have sworn it was darker.

I still feel like dark haired person... I think I should have been dark as my mom and granma were (that's granma in my avatar and profile pics). My DD seems to be a brunette too.

So I have to get used to this shorter hair AND being a blonde, that's a lot swallow, LOL!!!!!!!

I'm working on it but any inspiration I can find, I'l take!!!

I don't have many color acurate pictures. This (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=7001&pictureid=107107) is the latest one, which is a warm temporary honey color over faded light brown. Looks a lot lighter outside, I may add another picture later.

Your hair is gorgeous! I love the colour and waves, it looks very romantic and retro (20s) at the minute.

I can relate on the weirdness of being the only blonde in a family. Both my parents have brown hair and brown eyes, and I have blond hair and blue eyes. My brother has super dark hair, eyes and olive skin. I died my hair dark brown several times, and I thought it would make me feel like I looked more like my family. My mom hated it as she loves having a blond daughter!
But my grandma, who is Spanish and a brunette, was absolutely thrilled!

It's interesting also how one can feel different personality-wise with different hair colours. I felt much more daring and strong with dark brown hair, than as a blonde. I also felt people treated me as a more intelligent person (says more about them than me though!)

Let's hear it for the blondes on LHC! Congrats everyone for representing the fair-haired with your beautiful manes! :)

If it helps at all in your transition, at least at your current length I would consider you brunette still. It may get lighter as you grow out your virgin color but at least then you can transition into the idea of blonde in your hair :)

QueenJoey-In that one photo at least I also see your hair as a warm brunette. That might depend on where you live though. I know in some countries even darker hair can be called blonde where as in countries with many blondes only fair hair is called blonde.

I know in some countries even darker hair can be called blonde where as in countries with many blondes only fair hair is called blonde.

The basic hair color system is actually international. If people are calling dark blonde hair brown (which often happens, specially ashy shades), they're the wrong ones.

As we can see here (http://www.clairol.com/niceneasy/niceneasy/shade_palette/), many shades are called blonde, yet aren't exactly "yellow".

Number 127, Rich Medium Blonde looks outright brunette to me, on my screen. Very nice shade of brunette, too. As do 106A dark neutral blonde, 106D natural dark cool blonde, and 106G natural dark golden blonde. Where I grew up (south England), those shades as they appear on my monitor, were considered brunette, hands down. There's no right or wrong here, but it is very interesting to me that many more people than I had thought would consider my natural haircolor to be blonde.

xoxophelia
July 6th, 2011, 11:44 AM
Its seem like with dyes and the hair industry sometimes it comes down to vanity colors (like vanity sizing). Some people think it is better to be blonde so they call things that clearly look brown, blonde. Personally I was blonde all of my life but wanted a walk on the dark side so I don't see what the big deal is.. I'm lucky enough though, as what I call a blonette, that if I am very careful to protect from the sun I can have my hair just dark enough to be considered brown ^^'

Maybe as long as your hair is short and with the dyed bits on the bottom you can pull off calling yourself brunette. You may very soon enter the Twilight Zone of blonette like me :P

To me, blonde shades vary around what I would call beige, never brown, being either more grayed or more golden. (or in my case - more silver)

Yes I would agree with this. If the beige shines golden (versus red), then it is even more obviously blonde.

Thanks. And I agree, I wouldn't say some obviously brown hair is blonde. I guess what people see here as brown I see as lack of warmth. And I'm not the only one.

There's also the number of pigments the hair actually has. Just because it looks dark to you (because of the blue pigments), it doesn't have as many pigments (namely red) as brown hair.

Maybe the title should be: "Show us your blonde hair! (only warm colors please)"

It's not just about that hair color (or vanity colors), those pictures were the most acurate ones I could find. It seems like this thread doesn't welcome the ashy (any level unless it's extremely light) or dark blondes (level 6) in general. If that's the case, I'll just mind my own.

I'm not a "natural blonde wannabe" or whatever since I dye my hair whatever color I feel like at the time.

Everyone has their own interpretation of what blonde is. There may be a set standard that hairstylists use, but most of the public probably doesn't use those same terms. The closer you are to another hair color, the more likely it is that someone could call you that other hair color. I myself would probably find it difficult to distinguish between black and very dark brown. In the real world, I think many people would call level 6 and 7 not blonde, though they are considered dark and medium blonde on most level scales. It may be incorrect but that's the way it is.

Joliebaby
July 7th, 2011, 02:42 AM
Haha this is like a never ending subject :)

Anyway.. I was thinking. My hair is level 6 in the underneath layers and level 7/8 around the face, top, and nape. To be honest, in those swatches we looked at, levels 7 and eight were so close together, especially the ash shades, that they looked pretty much the same.

Now, I love dark hair and I think my DH's and my brother's level 6-ish hair is BROWN no doubt, and something I'd be happy with. I don't need to have darker than that. I had level 4 once by accident and it was a little bit too dark for me.

I was thinking of trying to naturally darken my lightest hair one shade, so it's all be about level 6. I'm going to start using castor oil (for growth) and that's supposed to darken. Also rosemary. And probably CO-washing.

So I'm gonna see if I can darken my hair naturally just a little bit to push it solidly into brunette.

Which is totally OT, sorry :D

It's not just about that hair color (or vanity colors), those pictures were the most acurate ones I could find. It seems like this thread doesn't welcome the ashy (any level unless it's extremely light) or dark blondes (level 6) in general. If that's the case, I'll just mind my own.

I can't speak for anyone else but I welcome the darker shades of blond. :D My mom's hair was kind of that ambiguously tawny color-- she didn't "look blond" compared to the rest of the family. My dad is a straight up towheaded freak and the kids all took after him. :p

But I think she was/is. When we moved to Southern Italy, people thought she was OBVIOUSLY blonde. And compared to the deep brunette that most people there had, she was!

(her hair is going silvery now, kind of like spidermom's hair, actually.)

The subject of what is and isn't considered blond is always a bit interesting to me. :)

I think if you live in a place where there is a lot of peroxide slinging around, people can lose sight of what natural blond tends to look like, especially in adults.

I'm definitely a golden blonde - I get platinum streaks around my face in the summer and have lots of natural highlights sprinkled throughout. My roots are more ashy than the length, which in many lights shows copper glints, especially in the under layers.

Love this thread! :D

Edit: You can see from the picture I posted above, vs. my siggy and my avatar how different lights affect the color. Both the photo above and below are indoors, no natural light, but my avatar is taken in my parents bathroom, which has a sky light. The effect is much more ashy.

That color palette definitely seems like it includes brunettes to me!

*ducks out of thread as a non-blonde*

But growingpains, it looks to me like your avatar pic hair color matches some of those darker 'blondes' in that link.

.

Ok now I'm even more confused. I thought my hair was decidedly 'ashy'. I honestly don't see with my eyes or my brain where I am discounting all the 'ashy' blondes as brunette. My hair is nothing but ashy. I have a grand total of two lovely coarse red/orange/ginger hairs on my head. The rest of it is fine as hell and no warm tones at all (I have searched for them!! :)).

MsBubbes, by your photos of your roots, as a professional - I would not categorize you as an ash tone. I would put you in the neutral category.

And, while helpful to an extent, the link to the color chart is also misleading. I do not see a true ash tone on that entire chart. The cool tones are much much warmer than a true ash looks in real life.

Thought I'd join this thread as someone who identifies as blonde. I can feel there is a little bit of tension in here between the question of what blond is, what ashy/neutral/golden is.
I see my natural hair as being fairly ashy. But I have been using cassia/henna to make it a warmer strawberry blond. The problem being also that 90% of my hair is bleached horror from going back and forth between blond to dark brown in the past couple of years. I have now decided to let it all grow, but perhaps keep doing those cassia/henna glosses.

I welcome ashy and darker shades.

I remember reading that the dictionary (don't remember which one) defines blonde as a set that include light skin tone and light eyes, although I've certainly seen dark brown eyes with natural blonde hair. (my grandson has it, but his hair may well darken; he's only 3)

I think part of the reason I hate* my hair color is because I'm in the is she blond, is she a brunette category. I'm cool with being a brunette if that is the case, I just wish people would agree! I think I'm dark enough to be a brunette but my hair is more yellow then brown and most people call me blond.

As someone who grew up with white/very light blond hair I tend to call some of the darker blonds, brunettes... To me the Rich Medium Blond is in no way blond, it looks light brown to me, same with the natural dark golden blond. But again, that's me.

I don't have any natural light pictures of my hair but it looks close to the natural light ash blond in the sunlight (which to me isn't "light" but whatever). As you can see in my pic below, inside in bathroom lighting it looks downright brown...

* ok I don't hate it but its annoying to not know what to call yourself!

See my avatar and album. My hair is currently high and lowlighted, but I'm naturally ash blonde. In my more recent photos, my roots are grown out a couple inches so you can see it a little. I think I'm getting darker and darker by the year though. If I'm anything like my parents, I'll have brown hair pretty soon. They were both blonde into their teens/early 20s and now in their 40s they're solidly in the brown category.

My hair actually has brown, light blonde, medium blonde, dark blonde and red in it. The reds tend to be corkscrew curls. Overall, it comes out brassy dark blonde to me although my hair stylist told me it was not dark enough to be a dark blonde, per her its a light to medium. In the summer it sometimes gets root lines from periods where I've lightened from being outside. My hairs been slowly darkening over the years except for the odd pieces. Started out as a redhaired baby, then as a white haired small child to what I'd call a light gold with lightest golden highlights as a teen.

I tried this for figuring out hair levels (because I always get distracted by tone). Put either a sepia or black and white filter on your picture and then compare it to their respective charts:

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz17/Blaircorneliabass/07-07-2011071240PM-3.jpg?t=1310097703 http://z.about.com/w/experts/Hairstyling-1565/2009/02/Hair-Level-Chart.jpg

Yeah I think using the black and white (I actually used a filter called gray scale) is more accurate than the sepia. I guess I just trust the color scheme to accord with the black and white scale more? Level 8 and 9 seem so similar to me anyway, I can barely differentiate between them. (And I love my single level 10 streak in the back there lol).

Ooh, Springlets, I like the idea of using black and white! I tend to get distracted by tone, too, so that makes it easier. Light and shadow still complicates it somewhat, but still, definitely less distracting. Most of my pictures looked at that way seem to point to my being a level 7, some a level lighter, some a lever darker.

UltraBella, I had no idea you were one of us! Cool! :D

Sometimes I'm really surprised at just how yellow my length is (but I do like the natural high- and lowlights). I think this one is pretty accurate compared to what my hair looks with my own eyes and not through a camera:

I hadn't been blonde for a long time and I didn't think my last dye job was ever going to fade, but the tropical trip I took in April for two weeks actually really helped. The sun and the salt water stripped it out but my hair didn't suffer like I expected. Plus, I chopped so much off once the weather got hot here that my ends are now all brand new ! The other nice thing about the extreme sunshine on the trip is my lovely new highlights. I kept my hair braided the whole time and I have some very subtle highlights now. You can see them, barely, in my root picture. Warms up the ashy tone just a tad. Yay !

Actually, the numbers go to 12 these days, 12 being WHITE blonde. But I think generally the lightest NATURAL blonde (at least on adults, who don't naturally have white blonde hair unless they are albino) is level 10.
Your hair is probably level 10 with some 9 or even 8 in the under layers.

Lol I'm horrible at it too! (I made the rest of my family do it and I was way worse than them :(). The black and white certainly seems to help me distinguish them better but I wonder if that's why 8 and 9 seem practically the same to me on the scale.

I agree with Joliebaby that your hair canopy seems to be mostly 8-9, with maybe some of the undercanopy 7 (at least in that picture you showed).

I totally agree about 10 being the lightest natural color that most adults reach, which is why I favor that chart more. 11 and 12 levels are usually reserved for either children or bottle blondes.

And I agree elbowchic your hair is a level 10.

I think the darker blondes/ light browns are more common than pale blonde. Apart from my daughter I know of only one other natural pale blonde, the rest are bottle blondes.

I live in a high Irish community and red hair is quite common, as well as very dark hair but id agree mousy (hate that word) hair is the most common.

106G and 106A look to me like light brown with blonde highlights in it, so I can see why they call it blonde. 127 and 106D look like ash blonde to me, pure ash which appears darker than it is.

I never knew that! I have met a few people with naturally light blonde hair and dark brown eyes, it is a lovely combination.

Well my daughter is a definite pure natural blonde too and her circumference is 6" and her strands are like fishing wire! and yes olive skinned, no freckles in fact very similar texture to yours! Its good to go against what people consider the norm! and your hair is in my top ten envious hair list!!!

I have olive skin too! I tan easily to a golden bronze.
I have light aquamarine eyes too and pale brows and lashes. I like to dye my brows because they are nearly invisible otherwise.
And thick medium-to coarse wavy darkish blonde hair :)

no worries if you have it flaunt it, your hair IS very beautiful and its uniqueness in texture and volume makes it more so xxxx

I finally got around to taking another picture, I've only grown half an inch in 2.5 months, but I did get a small trim in there, but still. Grow, hair, grow! I'm a light-honey blonde; forgive the lack of shine, new apartment=crappy lighting.

MissEarlGrey, you have one of the most beautiful colors imho, but it's encouraging to me to know even a light honey blonde like yourself can look darker with certain lighting. :) Lol hope you don't take that the wrong way, I just always thought it was the darker blondes whose hair changed so much in different lighting. Your hair is gorgeous!

your very similar to my natural colour mine just has a sprinking of red in it but id call it blonde. your friends must be crazy to call that brown!

Hmm my roots are the same color and someone described me as having blonde hair this weekend. To me it is brown yet not brunette but just dark enough to disqualify as blonde but maybe I am in denial and it is a shade of blonde? Very darky ashy or light ashy brown. I really like the color it's growing on me!! ;):o

But I think generally the lightest NATURAL blonde (at least on adults, who don't naturally have white blonde hair unless they are albino) is level 10.

I have to disagree on this. I know several adults with white blond hair and they are not albino :)

Beautiful pictures here. I was looking for inspiration as I'm getting back closer to my natural blond color after dyeing it dark for years and I definitely found what I was looking for.

To the "what's blond, what's not" conversation I have to say that in Finland, where I leave, one's hair has to be pretty light for anyone to consider it blond. I guess it's because we have so much natural blondes in here that I lot of people even prefer to be called brunette :D

No, I have not colored my hair in over 20 years. My eyebrows and eyelashes are so light that I need to wear makeup! I am now getting lots of silvers, which of course will stay. My hair color changes with the lighting in my photo's but this photo posted here is almost true to life, but a little light because of the snow reflection and outdoor lighting.

This thread is great. I really have to get a good camera because my cell phone lighting is awful; there's no point posting pictures. Anyway, I highlighted the canopy of my hair last year and underneath is a strawberry blond. Growing out the highlights is annoying, I keep wanting to cut it all off. I used to not like my natural red-gold shade, but now I can't wait for the highlights to be gone.

My hair used to be golden/honey blonde, at least that was what people compared the colour to when commenting/complimenting my hair colour. However, it has darkened somewhat over the years so I'm not sure if golden/honey still apply. Actually, it seems to have got more reddish as it has darkened, and I'm currently wondering if I might even qualify as strawberry blonde or not. Pictures are in my albums, there are pics with different lighting, indoors, outdoors in shade and sunshine. Any opinions would be appreciated as I'm not sure what to call my hair colour anymore... :silly: Although it seems I don't have any recent sunshine picture, the ones I have are from 2008.

I was completely white blonde until puberty and then it darkened very slightly through my teenage years but most people would still class my natural colour as very light blonde even now.

I agree that a blunt cut makes the hair look very healthy..
Now I just need to grow it at an inch per month rate LOL!!!

I was just shocked to see that the hair color samples at the salon put me in level eight!!!! 8A to be axact, which I take to be level 8 ash blonde? But with darker hair hidden under the canopy.

I am not calling it this or that yet though :D

Springlets, according to your method, your hair looks like level 8 in the first picture and 9 in the b&w picture.

It's so interesting how your hair looks very different colors in all your pictures! Your new haircut pictures make you look blonde, I can see the level 8A in those. Your braid signature picture, though, looks brunette to me. And, I love the thickness and texture of your hair :)

All right, I think we should bring this thread back to life! It's summer again - how is your hair looking? Do you let the sun lighten it, or do you try to protect it and keep your colour untouched?

I did a cassia treatment earlier, and since cassia seems to enhance my natural colour I'm feeling very golden-blonde today.

I can't believe I've never noticed this thread before! My hair is naturally ash blonde (similar to ultrabelle's root photo on page 8) and I get it highlighted every few months (half head of root touch-up) and a full head root touch up about once a year. I highlight because the paler colour compliments my 'summer' complexion better and makes my skin look less pink. I like to maintain my hair as ashy as possible, i find that using oils etc often makes my hair appear warmer so every so often I apply a semi- permanent toner...

Thank you! :blossom: MsBubbles, I used cassia from Henna Boy. My mix was runnier than normal since I only had 100g and wanted to make it last for two treatments, and it rinsed out so easily I was shocked. No tangles at all, especially not after conditioning. My hair is usually smooth and relatively silky as long as it's build-up free and moisturised, but it's absolutely ridiculously so today. *g* I've already ordered more cassia, heh.

I'll play! My hair color is completely natural. The color changes so much it is frustrating! I'm usually lighter earlier in the day and darker as my scalp gets oily throughout the day. I also seem to get a reddish color going on when I take pictures near the water.

The first and last picture are also the most recent, with the middle one being taken a year or so ago, so my hair has definitely lightened slightly, (but I still get that reddish color going on by the water!) :)

Probably the closest to how my hair looks in person for a lot of the day, after a wash, air drying, and the picture is taken in natural light :)

I think Merlisea's pictures are a great example of how variable the color can look! And such pretty hair, all! I do love blond; what can I say, my family tree is full of various shades of it. All interesting and lovely. My DD's is my favorite-- kind of a soft neutral shade that jumps to gold as soon as it sees daylight! Lots of variation and dimension in it.

As for me, I am neither avoiding nor seeking out the sun. I wear sunscreen religiously but don't bother covering my hair when out and about. I don't really want it any lighter though! bleh.

I'm actually thinking of putting some purple temp. dye in-- I'm itching for a bit of a change, and as it fades I can see whether or not I like blue-based toners in my hair. :D And thanks, Schweedie! That was one of those pictures where you go "whoa, it IS growing!" In my mind, I'm still around APL. haha

It's so nice to see the many variations of blonde! My hair is very light blonde in some light and almost dark blonde depending on the season. It is so much darker in the winter. I don't mind letting my hair lighten in the sun a bit. I don't spend so much time in the sun that it would be damaged too much.

Here's my most recent length shot and it looks very red, lol! It was taken inside, mid-afternoon with moderate light.

My hair has a lot of different tones to it. Roots, length, ends, canopy, underlayer; each section seems to be a different color. I think this picture shows the variation pretty well; sorry about the size.

I wanted to add that I use serum with oil and I think it and my night time work has darkened my hair. This summer I might try getting more sunlight at least see if this helps. I do miss my sun faded hair and the sunlight.

Yep, and the white color of the bleached parts kinda confuses the eye to identify the color, not to mention that already on the virgin only parts the roots are ashier than the 10th cm of virgin color

Oooh, a blonde thread! I loved going through the pages seeing all the beautiful shades of blonde in here :o I got to say that I envy you all that have light blonde hair, it is soooo pretty.

I have no idea what my haircolour is called, or what level it is, but it is blonde-ish, probably dark blonde, level 6 or 7 (is my guess, at least).

Estrid In most charts you are actually between 7-8 and since it's natural I'm sure you have also 9 level strands as well, and darker than 7. Beautiful by the way, in the first one I can see some lilac-ish undertones

I do have plenty of light blonde strands, but they are overwhelmed by middle and darkblonde ones :p Other than that I have found black strands in my hair, and it is not too hard to find copper ones or even bright red ones. So yeah, it's a holy mix!

I guess I am comparing to the blonde shades I see every day, my hair is probably considered dark blonde here. Maybe I am more middle blonde than dark blonde, but who knows. I am more used to seeing my haircolour indoors, and then it looks a bit darker. I am always surprised by the way it looks in sunlight, kinda like dry wheat! (only thing that came to mind) :bluebiggr

I'd say middle blonde for sure! And I know the feeling, I see my color only in certain lights, so when I accidentaly see myself outside on a sunny day for example, I'm shocked
By the way I've read somwhere once, that we tend to see our hair color a tone darker than it is.

The dark hair strands are always coarse for some reason, odd!
And is that how it is? I am not sure if I can believe that :p But maybe it is true. I don't think I am an 8 though, 7 is probably more "it", 8 sounds too light.

Well from now on, when you are going to beauty stores try to check out the numbers of the hair dyes (usually they have some chunks of fake hair wich represent the color) and see wich one is similar to yours ^^

Haha! I could do that ;) I think I have done that before, but I think that my hair was a different undertone than the samples or something, and that usually confuses me. But Yeah, I could definitly do it anyway.

Estrid, I am not knowledgeable on levels and such, but your hair color is amazingly beautiful!!:thudpile:

Aw, thank you! Imo my hair got a very dull colour, it is like... "too natural"? Maybe I am just way too used to it to see anything else

Oh, btw, I always thought of my hair as warm-toned, since it got those yellow and red hints in some lights, but my skin is cool toned and I don't think it looks that bad with my hair(?), + I still prefer cool-tones hairtoys (like, silver over gold, for example).
Maybe I am just partly blind, like, only when it comes to myself :p

Yeah, I think mine might have little more of a red tinge than Johannah's (in some lights it's quite noticeable), but I agree, I think we're relatively close. :)

wilderwein, I can tell you that cassia certainly brings out the gold in my hair even more. I haven't done any cassia treatments in a while now, but it's definitely something my hair likes and that makes it look (and feel!) better.

But *what* sort of protein? There are different types of protein (http://science-yhairblog.blogspot.be/2013/09/more-about-protein.html), some your hair might like, others hate. I've had a conditioner high in hydrolyzed keratin and collagen and it was... okay. Though my hair loves gelatin (which is partly collagen) and loves hydrolyzed keratin, but the combination didn't work for me.

Not sure :hmm: it reacts good with the gelatin treatments but not with the conditioners that are labeled as "repair" ones

I thought there was a thread somewhere that had pics of roots vs. ends. For the life of me I cannot find it. Once again by the powers of blonde skull I summon forth this thread.

Here are my ends held up to my roots. I am conflicted with the color difference. My lightened ends are souvenirs from spending hours in the ocean and sunshine. It was good times. My roots are a reflection of moving away from the sunshine and waves and into a colder climate.

Also, I never noticed how red my hair can look until last year.

Blondies, show us your ends vs. roots.

I've learned to embrace my darker shades and darker crown, since living more north for a couple years now. ;D Swan Maiden, your hair is so golden! I bet your hair is like mine, when in direct sunlight it looks more even in color, but on overcast days or indoors you notice the color variations more.

Wow Ellethwyn I adore your color variations. I think you are correct that the color blends smoother in certain lights. It definitely is more cohesive in the summer when lighter streaks sneak in. Your second picture really showcases the multi facetedness of blonde hair. Forest animal hair :) beautiful.

My hair looks so reddish in that pic I dont even want to say it's blonde. So strange. I did a cassia treatment more than a year ago but it still sort of looks like I have had a recent one with the golden color. With age my hair has drifted into this reddish color.
