View Full Version : Large hair screw by an artist in Deland or Debary, FL

About 7-10 years ago, I was at an art festival in (I think) Maitland, FL around Lake Lily. There was a lady there who made long hair screws with decorative shapes at the top. She tried one on me (first French twist ever), and then I played with it for a while. Unfortunately, I did not have the money for it and couldn't get one.

Ever since then, I have looked for her (other art shows, all over the Internet, even contacting the city of Maitland to see if they had a list of the vendors who were there) but with no luck whatsoever. I do have a couple of the Goody hair screws, but they are nothing like what this lady made. Hers were so pretty, and I cannot for the life of me remember anything about her except she was black, a little older, and lived in either Deland or Debary.

With so many people here, I was hoping that perhaps someone here would have run into her or somehow know who I was talking about.

Any ideas?

Your post made me think of this lady. I've always wanted to buy one of her hair skewers.

It's not the answer to your question - but it's still pretty eyecandy.

Oh, yes. Those are pretty. I haven't gotten any of the pretty hair toys yet, but I will before too long, I think.

I just really, really want that hair screw / spin pin / whatever you would call it.

She had different sizes and types, narrower thread for thinner hair, wide for thick hair, and everything in between.

Wow! Those are really pretty! I think I am going to have to get a hair dagger before the Highland Games next year!

The Neeva screw is similar-ish, but hers was more like a corkscrew with a single spiral rather than a double. The width of the metal varied from piece to piece, too, for different hair thicknesses.

I got it for myself at some sort of festival and ended up never wearing it so my boyfriend decided it would make a nice dread ornament :) They sold the spiral separately and then I had to pay extra from the trinity charm that attached to the end of it. It held up pretty well until the charm fell off in the ocean and then bf had to stop wearing it because the end of it was so pointed, he was afraid it would inadvertently stab him in the neck

I have a brass corkscrew stick that I bought twenty years ago on a college campus. Believe or not, I still use it and love it. I wish I could track down the artisan that made it... I would buy more.

Yes! This is it! And thank you for the PM, too, because I might have missed it.

They are a lot more expensive than they were years ago, but now that I know where to find them, I can wait and save up.
