I didn't take care of my hair that good during my stay in the hospital. Right now, my hair has alot of split ends, and I want to go get it trimmed to get rid of those, but when I go to the hair stylist, she always ends up cutting it too short.
And also, since I didn't take care of my hair that well for a few months, what can I do to get it back to being healthy? Right now I wash it in the shower, then dry it (sometimes with a towel) and brush it. Any tips? Thanks :)

If you go to a stylist, maybe take a measuring tape and explain to her, "I'm trying to grow my hair very long and just want a trim. If there are any pieces of hair longer than this *hold up measuring tape and indicated desired trim length* on the floor after the cut, I'm not paying for it." It's okay to be that clear, it's your hair and you would have to live with a crap cut, not her. It's possible you might find a long hair friendly salon (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=11326) in your area, but even if you do, still tell them that^^ There are so many horror stories on LHC about stylists cutting too much off, to the point of girls having cheekbone length hair after they asked for a trim on hair that was well past the shoulders. If you feel up to trimming it yourself, you could try Feye's self-trim (http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/). You could just cut a little bit off each piece and you know it won't end up looking much different than you started with, only minus the damaged bits.

You should read this standard new LHC member article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=39) too.
There's a ton of resources on this forum for the second question you are asking... which is really general. Reading the articles would probably be a great help to you.
Personally, I conditioner-only my hair a couple times a week, never use shampoo, towel-dry, use a leave in conditioner that combines aloe juice, glycerin, and a bunch of oils, and sometimes do deep treatments with olive oil. I never brush my hair (but I just bought a boar bristle brush to massage my scalp with!) But everyone's hair is different and there's several favored methods.
There's a list of articles here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=41073), including one on hospital hair care. You should skim through the titles and see which ones appeal to you, I bet you could learn a lot!
Glad you hear you're up and about.

Eat healthy and drink plenty of water.
Try doing Feye's self trim which is easy and gives good results.
Avoid blow fryers.
Use a wide tooth comb and detangle your hair before brushing.
use a pure boar bristle brush. Do not wash the dickens out of your hair. Once a week is enough. if your hair is oily, then wash it more often. Also use hair friendly shampoos and conditioners.
You might want to look into vitamin supplements (but don't over do it with the supplements!)
Wear your hair up to protect the ends and use a satin/silk pillowcase to protect the ends.
Use hair friendly toys and elastics with NO metal.
Avoid ponytails if at all possible. use a barrette instead.
Hope you are feeling much better and on the road to recovery.
