View Full Version : Hair type me after CO?

So, I've been CO for a month now, and I was surprised after my hair dried yesterday. When I first started CO, I was happy because it actually made my hair a bit straighter. My hair is pretty straight, anyway, but it's always got an annoying bump around my nape, which is toned down in the following photo.

This is my hair after my first CO:

This is my hair one month later:

It doesn't look all that much different, right? I combed my hair wet before each photo (because my hair dries straighter that way) and then let my hair dry. The second photo is only slightly less straight... but that's just from the back. My side and front views are wavier:

Here are the waves just hanging. You can see that some parts are still completely straight, but the chunks of hair closest to my face are wavier:

Here's from the front with my hair just lying there. It looks kind of scraggly, but I hadn't combed it for a while. My hair gets scraggly-looking fast :( :

Other side, which is straighter:

I've considered myself 1b-ish, but am I actually 1c? Next time I CO, I won't comb my hair (I think that's how hair typing is supposed to work, anyway, but I didn't want to wait until next week to ask... ;) ).

Thanks for any help/advice! And sorry for all of the photos... I hope they're helpful! And not too big! I don't know how big they'll turn up after I post.

I'd say 1b, but remember that combing does tend to pull out waves, so you may actually have more wave than that.

By the way, you're very pretty. :)

This kinda reminds me of how my hair changed after starting CO. My hair was looking more 1bish ever since it was cut short. But with CO, it's showing its 1c nature again. It's great. :)

To answer your question, I think it's more 1c, assuming you haven't manipulated it.

It looks more 1c than 1b to me :) if you posted a pic where you didn't comb it when it was wet you'd probably be a full 1c.

I'd say 1c.

UPDATE: Okay, I COed this morning and did not comb my hair. My hair was wavy, but it was so fluffy and frizzy that I had to comb, and add jojoba oil, to make it smoother. Now, my hair looks like it did in the photos in my original post. :( I'd like to keep the waves, but how can I do that without frizziness??? I'm wondering if the Wurly and Curly thread can help me, even though I'm certainly not curly...

Here are my new photos of my uncombed, dry hair:

From the back. Again, it really doesn't look very wavy from the back:

What my hair looks like just hangin':

My wavier side:

Hmm, now I'd say 2a. You have quite a bit of wave there. As for keeping the waves minus the frizz, some people have luck with aloe vera gel. It's never worked for me, though; it just pulls out my waves and crunchifies my hair.

Thanks for the response, twilight_faerie. :) I think I'll put aloe vera gel on my shopping list...

I've been having a similarly hard time typing my hair and I have received similar advice! I did stop CO washing as it felt like I couldn't get the conditioner out or that it wasn't clean enough but I think I will start it again when I have used up some of the previous stuff I have bought. My hair is straight(ish) minus the bump round the neck which is usually due to it resting on my clothes I think and also bits round my face. My hair also looks just as wavy while it's wet but does need to be brushed - combing alone does not help to smooth it or get rid of knots yet goes rather straight when it has been brushed / combed. I'll see how CO and aloe work for me too :)

Very pretty hair btw

Thanks, Peashy! I've always had that bump around the neck, but mine isn't from clothes-- I have it as soon as my hair dries, even if I've been standing naked the whole time! (Yep, I've experimented, just to make sure.) I haven't worn my hair down in public in yeaaars because of that stupid bump... but I will if I can get more waves in my hair. :)

As for your CO, were you letting the conditioner sit on your head long enough? DH hates CO and I just found out that the reason it leaves his hair oily is because he only lets it sit there for about one minute. I let it sit for about five. Also, I use only Suave Naturals to clean my scalp-- it's a really runny sort of brand. Maybe that would help you? It's hardly creamy at all. :)
