I just did a kitty bun and took a picture for Dsis.
She wants to see what it looks like with a sock bun underneath instead of the way I do it now since my hair is longer.
Does anyone know where it is?
(Sock bun braid leftover hair into 3-4 tails, then wrap around.)

Oh yes, the KittCatt bun. It's in the archives under sock bun, if you want to search. I'll see if I can find it too.

Here's the link to the original sock bun with lots of variations and KittCatt's bun is in there at the middle of the second page.

Thank you so very much, that was the thread.
I had a brain freeze, kept searching under Kitty instead of kittcatt

My gosh, that KittCatt has gorgeous hair and that style was in incredible hit around here.
GTBM, do we get to see the bun you made?

I did it with oily hair in front of the video camera to show my sister in Colorado.
I'll do one with third day hair (best updo hairday). Since KittCatt seems to be taking a vacation from LHC, maybe I'll do one and post it in articles and credit her.
If your hair is shorter than mine, you can do exactly her bun.
It's so easy and looks way more complicated than it is.
First step is to go to a men's department and find a pair of socks that are close to your haircolor. cut out the toe and roll it into a sock form. The rest is easy.
(I like the men's Gold toe socks because they come in just about every color close to human hair and they have a little "nap" to them so they don't slip as easy.

I had never seen this bun before. I like it! Wonder if it would be possible to replicate without all the parting nonsense (I'm lazy). I'm thinking of making the first coil on a regular cinnamon bun, then pin it and braid the rest of the tail to wrap around. I'll try to remember and attempt it tomorrow.

That's similar to what I do. I've done this on a friend's hair that's a little past classic.
I make a turn and a half (firm) cinnamon bun then braid the rest, it almost goes all the way around. For me it worked, for the longer hair, anchoring became a problem, even with anchoring the turns. It ended up looking like a bee butt, no matter what we did.
This works even with the longest hair:
For a bigger bun that has more of an empire look (read Josephine, Napoleon's wife)
1) I make a very high ponytail with top 2/3 of my hair (using a ribbon so it will lay flat) Or don't anchor the ponytail at all.
2) I make a cinnamon bun as usual, making sure I anchor it on one side only (just enough to stay for a minute.
3) Then, bring the back hair up, UNDER the cinnamon bun on the unanchored side, twisting a bit as I go. Now anchor the rest of the cinnamon bun. (Usually DH just stands and holds the extra hair straight up for me). If you don't have an extra hand, just lean forward.
4) Then I lean forward and braid the rest of the hair.
Since this is "back of the head hair, and about a foot of the length is taken up . . . it leaves a braid that is lighter weight and perfect for going around the bun.
5) Wrap it around the bun, tuck the tassel under. Anchor with Hair Scroos.
DH calls this one of my "Tornado Proof" Buns.
Note: As a finishing touch, I use a two banded Ficcare hairband to give it a neat look sometimes. I just tuck the ends into my hair.

Oh good it sounds like this will work afterall. Thanks for the directions GTBM. That is sweet of DH to hold your hair while you braid ;)
