You might want to search the forum a little because it seems like I remember reading somewhere that using coconut milk was NOT a good thing.

Some find it quite drying while others find it moisturizing. I guess my question is does it dissolve oil like conditioner does?

I don't think it is. I think some people find it leaves a slight residue on the hair so I doubt it would be good for cleansing. Most people use it for a conditioning treatment.

I also don't think it is, but I never used it on my hair. It's used more like a conditioning treatment, though.

Coconut milk is a great conditioning treatment, but I would not recommend trying to shampoo with it. I generally have to shampoo twice to get it out of my hair when I use it as a deep treatment.

If your Idea is mixing coconut milk in your shampoo and your hair is in need of some protein, go for it.
Coconut milk can't clean your hair alone, actually is very difficult to take it our.
Some people can experience some dryeness using coconut milk because of the protein, so looks like is little clean, but not really.

What LornaDoone said!!! You will HAVE to shampoo it out, possibly twice. It's just like pouring liquified coconut oil pretty much, that stuff is very very oily.
