So,

I just bought a brand new paisley square scarf from Walmart. I had planned to use it to cover my hair. Only thing is, it's made from 100% polyester. I know that satin and silk are appropriate hair coverings but what about Polyester? It's not cotton?

It might not be as breathable as cotton or silk, so it might feel hotter. What do you mean by appropriate hair covering?

Satin is a kind of weave, not the material something is made of. Satin can be made of polyester, silk or acetate. Silk can be woven into many types of fabric, from tissue-thin chiffon to thick, burlap-type material.

My hair bonnet is polyester. If it's got a smooth satin weave, it'll still slide nicely over hair. However, like sedonia said, polyester doesn't breathe very well. For that reason, I dislike it for pillowcases.

Polyester is synthetic, so creates static. I have no experience with polyester scarves or pillowcases, but it seems like using a natural fiber would be safer for hair.

I made myself a satin polyester sleep bonnet the other night, smooth side in, I've slept with it twice so far I LOVE it .. lol, I have both the pillowcase and the bonnet !! :-)

As long as the material is soft it will be fine, polyester just doesn't breathe very well so you may end up sweating under it in warm weather.

Satin is a type of weave and not a particular type of fabric. Your scarf is probably 100% polyester woven in a satin weave. It should work just fine.

Don't use it! Your hair will slowly absorb the synthetic material and become impenetrable to moisture. You will regret it!

...

Yeah, I'm totally kidding. :p It's fine, just might not be terribly breathable. Long as it's smooth and comfy, all's well!
