I've searched around in the articles and through the pages here and I haven't really found a collection based on length of hair.
Like:
updos/braids for APL
updos/braids for BSL
-waist/tailbone/classic etc.
I've learned only 2 buns since I started with APL hair (I'm now approaching waist) but every time I look up a new bun I want to try my hair just isn't long enough yet.
I was wondering if there is a guide broken down like that here- or if not- maybe we can make one :)
thank you.

I'm new to doing updos so this is a good thread for me! I'm a bit past BSL and also not sure about what updos I can do.

(I just learned the Gibson tuck and I'm very happy about that! The first updo that I'm sure looks nice on me!)

The trouble is, a lot of what works varies by thickness as much as it does by length. I could do a Figure-8 by waist length, while another member needed mid-thigh to do one.

Not mine. :( I would however like to know if there's anything I could try when I reach shoulder.

Well, at least there is one advantage to my thin hair. :( :)

Agreed. My cinnabun wouldn't work until nearer waist than BSL, and my hair isn't even that thick (3.8"), so goodness knows how frustrating it must be for those with full-blown iii.

I once posed the same question and someone gave me these links:
Hair Style Dictionary and Size Chart (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=10999)
Hair Style Dictionary Instruction links (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=11763)
Hair Style Dictionary (http://hairstyledictionary.ztn.net/filter.php?ax=o)

For your particular length I'd recomend checking out Habioku's site: Hairstyle collections (https://sites.google.com/site/habioku/hairstyles/hairstylecollection) (if you look to the left of that page you'll see links to pics and tutorials). ETA: FrannyG has some cool updos on her site too: Some Favourite Updos (http://www.frannyslonghairstyles.com/updos.htm).

Good luck finding new hair styles! :D

You're welcome!

Yeah, I find that 90% of the fun of having long hair is learning new updos. :D

A french twist! I love the french twist and you can really only do one nicely when you have hair somewhere between shoulder and bsl. I'm at waist now and can no longer do a nice one. So enjoy it while you can :)

I agree that thickness is a major factor. I'm creeping towards BSL so a cinnabun shouldn't be a problem but no... it just falls apart when I put in my fork. Sticks hold a bit longer but still... French twist is still manageable but it doesn't look like a pure French twist anymore, it's taking an S-shape nowadays. The only things I can do without efforts are braids and ponytails. I wonder when buns will come into the picture.
