Hello all,
I've been growing my hair out for some time (I will post a picture along with this) and Im kind of at a loss. I really have never styled it and just let it down all day every day during school. I want some ideas on how I could do it or some different types of hair toys! It would really help a lot!

ooh, your hair is totally long enough to braid... have you tried? "i have a sickness... i must warn you... i braid everything i touch"

braids are awesome cuz they look good when they're messy.

here are some of my favorites for long thick hair:

-french braids, one on each side - took me a bit of practice but they're not too hard and i think it's really pretty

-taking two braids from your temples and clipping them together in the back. I like htis cuz you can still wear your hair down, but it keeps it out of your face and looks fancified. There are some varieties here (http://www.zimbio.com/Black+Braiding+Hairstyles/articles/a58IwJ1iUYX/hairstyles+braids+front) and here's a basic one:

-fishbone braids (i've never actually done this, but ... i wish i did)

-single side braid - a very casual and easy, and currently fashionable look - i do this often

Miss Torrin Paige has many very interesting long hair tutorials at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNTTQRp_oiw&feature=related

You can also check out the "ARTICLES" section (on the grey Menu Bar) and peruse the various style tutorials submitted by LHCers.

The Gibson Tuck and Sock bun are very good for shorter hair. Also the French Twist.

If you know how to do lace French braids, there are a number of styles you can adapt to that technique.

Your hair is gorgeous! You have lovely curls and colour.

I agree with the braid suggestion. You can incorperate braids into many different styles and the article section is also a great place to start for different updos.

Also check out some peoples hair albums, many members dedicate updos to thier own album and do lovely styles often adding something extra to the look to change it up from the article section that you could ask them for help on.

Also check out Hairstyle of the Month and start there for some ideas and maybe join in!

thanks for the options! Yes-- i have tried braiding before. I find it difficult to braid my own hair because there are actually many layers in my hair. the shortest JUST reached my chin.
