i know it may sound weird, but i have never had hair past APL and none of my friends have long hair. so does anyone have any photos of their hair each month at different lenghts just so i can see how long my hair should grow each month? im worried that my genetics wouldnt let me long hair as none of my family have ever had long hair, they cut it every month or so.
thnk you. :)

In my album, I have monthly photos of growing pixie to shoulder length. But, I just noticed you are a new member and will not be able to view the albums yet.

You can't really judge your hair growth by other people's though. Everyone is different. Some people grow at a very fast rate and some very slow. I am on the faster side, but that doesn't mean yours "should" grow like that.

Also, the longer mine gets (like in my signature pic) it starts to grow slower for some reason. So, when I get to that point again, the pics won't be as noticeable as they were when growing from pixie.

Average is .25-.5 per month. But some people are way faster and way slower than that.

So, unfortunately, I don't think seeing other people's progress pics will help you much.

You could start your own monthly progress pics though. That way, over time, you will get an idea of how much yours grows each month.

I also have monthly (ish) pictures in my albums when you get enough posts to peruse those.

I also recalled a thread sort of similar to this...participants photograph their hair every week for a month, and maybe some post every month, but there should be quite a few progress pictures: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=35093

Thank you ! Half an inch per month on average , so it will take a year to waist length-ish. Yay ! :-) I thought it would take longer ...:)

Well... That's assuming you don't cut at all and that you grow at the average rate. I grow more like 0.75" a month. There's at least a few folks who grow faster than that. And there are posters running around here who grow 0.25" a month or less. It doesn't matter what average hair grows... it matters how your hair grows.

I grow approx 0.5"-0.75" a month, heres my albums. I started growing in 2005 but joined here in 2007 so most of the photos are from 2007 -present.

my hair grows 1cm per month, i measured precisely on my roots. it helped when i made some measurements, so i could estimate how long it would take me to get to my goal.
hopefully your hair grows faster than mine! good luck to you!

^^ remember root growth doesn't necessarily mean actual length growth. If hair is damaged or just old because its long it can weaken on the ends and break. Therefore although you are seeing an inch growth in roots this does not mean you are gaining an inch each month. Plus hair grows at different speeds throughout the scalp.

Its more actuate or consistent to measure from your hairline in the front, passing the tape measure over your head to the tips.

:) hahahah yeah i'm probably getting less than a cm of length growth then! i'll measure from my hairline to my ends in a couple weeks to see how its progressing. i just get excited when i notice its getting longer (even if its just a little bit)

I get about an inch a month year-round. One of the other things you'll find is that a lot of people have faster and slower growth seasons. For some people, heat means slower growth, for others, faster growth.

I have an album - spidermom's growing concern - with pictures taken one year apart for 5 years.

I have a growth album. It doesn't show too much since I've only documented a couple months of progress at pixie length, but it's there. Also, it may encourage you to know that the sage advice you find here at LHC will probably help your hair grow longer faster. At least ever since I started being nice to my hair and experimenting with the LHC methods, my hair has almost doubled its growth rate. It's also growing in thicker. Maybe that will happen for you.
