View Full Version : French knots-

I am working on my messy updo's. This look isn't quite there yet, but I think it shows some promise. All I did was knot my hair as if it were a french braid, starting with a double knot at the front and doing two more single knots. Then I knotted my ends and away I went. I liked the bumpy texture quite a bit. I know knotting hair will make some folks cringe but I have no issues with it.

Sorry the photos were so dark. My son wasn't happy about taking them and every time I say "Just one more picture..." he gets annoyed. (Ignore my son's old bike in the back yard. I believe he thinks that if he leaves it there long enough, it might go to seed.)

This is pretty! I like how it's a different look than a regular French or Dutch braid but still seems to keep the hair secure and add interest.

Thanks all. I will try it again and get my mom to take some pictures. She won't get as annoyed as my kiddo does. It held up through dancing very well.

Wow, that's really pretty. Now I'm going to have to scuffle off and search out how to make French knots.

I kind of made it up. *blush* I literally just tied two sections of my hair in a knot, grabbed a bit further down and added it to one side and knotted again.

Really? Wow, I'll have to give that a try. How slippery is your hair? Did you need to use pins to keep it in place? Pretty awesome style, if you ask me.

I didn't need pins except for one knot that decided to stick out at a funny angle and all it took was one bobby to stick it back down. I am guessing that my hair is medium slippery. Until I got close to classic I could never tie my hair in a knot and have it stay, for instance. When I undid the bun, it didn't take much to pull the knots out. The bottom ones popped out on their own.

Love that style - its so elegant!

Sometime ago I tried French knotting inspired by a website I found: http://findingbraids.com/pretzelbraidspho.html
I believe, she's a member of the LHC :D.

So I tried a asymmetrical French knotted updo:

Nifty! I had not seen that site before. My knots didn't look quite like that because I tied a square knot for the first one and a half a square for the second. I can't quite figure out how those on the website are done. I am guessing that a strand of hair is knotted rather than tied with another strand, if that makes any sense.

So pretty. I might give this a try. I've knotted my hair before and the knots slide right out. Thanks for sharing. Your son sounds like my children. They are constantly leaving their scooters and bikes out where the dogs chew on the tires. Gets quite annoying seeing we spent a lot on their bikes.
