Probably one of the sillier questions but I held half my length of hair to my ears and pressed it with my thumb against my fingers, and it sounded like a 'crackling' or as if it might be brittle, but I don't think it is. Is this normal?

Mine sounds like that and it's not brittle. I think it's just how hair sounds. Mine is medium/coarse so that might have something to do with it.

It's surely just the sound of hairs moving against each other?

If your hair isn't snapping when you do it, it's probably not brittle ;) To me it's just the sounds of hairs rubbing against hairs!

I get this sound.. I've always assumed it's the hairs rubbing together. :p

That's just the hairs making awkward conversation with each other because they're packed so tightly. Things like, "Whoa, cowboy, you have to buy me dinner first," etc, etc. ;)
