View Full Version : Hair looks short over shoulders

I have large breasts for my size, and it really annoys me because, though my hair is at waist, when I put it over my shoulders, it hits just below nipple. My hair on a thin girl would look so much longer. Is it sad that I want to lose weight simply so my hair looks longer? :eyebrows: Do any of you have this issue?

Yep. It stinks. :) I have to crane my head around to really admire my length, or put it all over one shoulder and tilt my head.

Yep-but I don't mind it so much.
At my age I'm both large and uhh saggy-so I'd have to be waist length before they covered that area you're talking about.

A bit of that, and the 'V' my hair is cut into makes it look much sorter at the front.

I'm only at APL, but I hate mine does it too. I don't have big ones though, so it's not too, too bad. :)

I have the same problem here. To make things worst I also have a V cut. I'm thinking about cutting my hair gradually into an inverted V. This way my hair will look as long in the front as in the back. Am I too crazy??

amen sista.
I was starting to get really bummed out, because I want my hair at waist and it felt as though it would never get past BSL, and I looked at myself in one of those three way mirrors the other day and its only got an inch to go! I was heartened, but had to revise my goal: hair in FRONT at waist. lol

You're not crazy! Especially if you usually wear your hair over your shoulders when it's down. (I do!) I also heard that the inverted V is really good for braids... not really sure why.

Haha, this is completely what I've realized for myself, as well.

I'll trade with you!
Oh, man....I have a size B cup breast. I would take a C or D cup any day and have my hair appear shorter!!!

Ugh I have the same problem, I'm both quite tall and well-endowed in the boob department so my hair looks so much shorter on me than it would on a smaller person

I'm really busty too (F cup), so it kind of minimizes the appearance of length. In the back I'm nearly waist, in the front it doesn't cover my nipples. Grr.
Ah well, there are worse things than being generously endowed.

Oooh, you don't want to trade! The hair appearing short is the least of my worries! All those cute styles I want to wear... especially cute summer dresses... are impossible with large breasts! Even dresses that will contain them make me look pregnant. :( A B cup seems like it would be perfect! But I guess none of us are truly satisfied with what we have. :p

I love going to this one mall in my city because of the mirrors in the bathroom, just to see what my hair looks like from behind. XD
Having hair cover my nipples was a milestone for me. Lollll. "Modesty length" I believe it has been called here.
I'm between a 'b' and 'c' cup, not really sure, but I have noticed that my one very skinny friends' hair completely covers her chest, where as on me, her hair length would not.

YEP! all the women on TV who have big boobs and look great have their clothes tailored! Big chest + off the rack don't mix :(

I love going to Target because they have those mirrors in their dressing rooms! I stay in waaay too long, just going, "Whoa!!!" Haha.
"Modesty length" sounds MUCH nicer than "hair covering nipples." XD So thanks for the term! My new goal is MODESTY-LENGTH... which I think will be hip, which is my goal anyway! :cheese:

I want a Godiva modesty length! I'm curvaliscious all over and at almost classic my hair brought around front only comes to my waist. For Godiva modesty (covering the girly goodies) It'll likely have to be at my goal of knee.

Yep exact same for me! :) I felt like my hair was hardly growing at all lately and then I plopped it back over my shoulders to lie down my back and it's actually growing surprisingly fast but having it to the front totally disguised it!!

Lol!! Same. Heck, my hair isn't THICK enough for modesty. It takes all of my hair to cover just one- with a bra. Without I don't even have that. :o :o

My goal is for my hair in front to reach my ribcage right below my breasts (not quite waist length in front but close to it) ... I wonder how long that'll be in back.

This thread is cracking me up! I'm soooo lucky because my hair hits at the same place whether it is in front or down my back, if you get my drift. My friends joke that I disappear if I turn sideways. I thought getting a nice bushy head of hair tumbling down my back...or front...would give me a little shape.
Remember, curvy ones, the seasons that V-necks or scoop-necks are in vogue, I am hunting for something that doesn't expose my navel.... and shortening necklaces so they don't get caught in my belt--and I am long waisted!
I love the new terms: modesty length and Godiva modesty. I had to laugh because I, too have hair too thin to hide any of the goodies! (But I will never have a headache from long hair, either!)
If it is any comfort to those of you whose hair shortens like magic if you wear it in front, when I see you walking down the street, I do notice your length and figure where it would hit on me.

Actually, same here. :o But... I guess if you're nude and covering with your hair, you don't really mind if anyone can see through it. :p So maybe we'll have "false modesty" length.

Actually, one of my motivations for growing out my hair is to cover my chest on particularly insecure days. I won't lose weight to make my hair look longer, because it'll make my chest look even bigger by comparison.

Yup, in fact this just happened tonight at dinner when my friend randomly said "your hair was longer yesterday." No. But I wasn't wearing a pushup bra yesterday....

Same here. I wear a 40/DDD or F. Its always a tad depressing when I pull my hair to the front and it suddenly doesn't look near as long as I thought it would. I wonder how long it will have to be to look waist length in front? Hmmmmm

I have layers which I hate very much (I didn't even want them but someone got scissor happy, grrr.) Sometimes the short pieces fall forward and people think that's my hair length. They don't realize there's a bunch of long hair behind me.

I have this problem to and it really frustrates me:steam my hair is about mid back length but worn over the shoulder it looks about shoulder length, i'm about a C cup and i'm very petite i so want to do the braid over the shoulder look.
So yesterday i decided so what if it makes my hair look very short this way i like it it looks more casual.

I wear a 34D...(UK size, I think the US ones are different?) and to be honest I'm glad of it because the rest of my figure is, uh, "naturally burlesque" so it would look really weird if I were flat chested. In fact it did when I was a teen and the boobs hadn't grown up yet.
The hair thing, though, is annoying. Still. I almost never wear it down, so no one sees this problem. Also, I will probably just grow to classic and then, voila! Long hair in front.

Yep! I think everyone gets it to an extent. That's why I changed my length goal from waist to nearly tailbone - I want it to look waist at the front! Especially because I like to wear my hair over my shoulders so I can look at it :D

My "endowments" are the reason I don't think I want to go for longer than BSL. I don't want my hair jutting out if I wear it over my shoulders. It would call too much attention to the girls and I already notice most men have trouble looking me in the eye. To those who don't have big boobs, be careful what you wish for in case you get it. :)

This might be the first time in my life that I truly see the upside of having tiny "endowments" ;)
Please note from a skinny girl: there's nothing wrong with having an actual feminine shape. Yes, sometimes we wish we were a bit less skinny too :/

Most of us don't seem to want what we have, but I try to remember that every time I hate my body. It can be difficult to love my extremely feminine shape while clothes shopping, though. ;)

Well, next time try to imagine no being able to decently "fill" a woman shirt :( that is the part of shopping that gives me hell.
(But yeah, fine, I do actually see the advantages of being skinny when shopping for tight jeans...)

I can dig it, even though I have the opposite problem. Practically every woman I know has trouble finding lots of cute clothes. It's really more an issue of clothing designers not offering cute styles in enough sizes.
Right now I'm still not sure what hair length will best suit my shape, but this thread suggests that maybe BSL is best. I'll just have to grow it and find out.

I can relate, although I have the opposite problem. Over my shoulders, my hair touches my thighs already.
Down my back, because of my gigantic hiney, my hair does not touch my thighs.

I understand your idea from earlier with having hair longer than BSL bringing too much attention to your chest. I actually don't know if it will be more of an eye target at waist. If it is, I'll just have to cut it I guess.
I suffer from 36H chest (american sizing). I don't just have trouble finding cute clothes, but also there are NO undergarments out there that provide the needed support and look nice and cooperate with various choices of shirts. I cannot wear spaghetti straps because of how think my bra straps are, which really sucks since I think my body looks its best (chest included) in a plain spaghetti strap tank top. And even when I do find a shirt I like, the scoop of the neck often will reveal the edges of my bra, which makes me extremely self-conscious.
I actually wonder if I have body dysmorphic disorder because of the extreme feelings I have about my chest. I fantasize about just hacking them off. I really wish I had $10,000 to get a reduction surgery.

I can relate- getting a good bra is really, really hard. Often the good ones are really expensive, too! It's very frustrating.
Are you sure your insurance won't cover reduction? Because I've looked into it for myself and my insurance would cover the majority, if not all, of the cost of getting a reduction surgery.

June 11th, 2011, 01:51 PM
I'm in Massachusetts. Our insurance is kind of crap lol. I went to physical therapy for a 6-week period two years in a row in an attempt to have them pay for my reduction surgery. They barely paid for the physical therapy, so I doubt they'd pay for bras. Anyway, I don't currently have insurance. And when I get the new insurance through university, it'll be very minimal.
