I want to start doing more of this,as I think it is a good alternative to a braid :

I really like the look of the banded ponytail! I don't wear my hair this way very often but when I do I use colourful ponytail holders. RedHeadGirl, your hair looks great banded!

I like banded ponytails, too, but I don't wear them that much. I feel very self-conscious about my taper from layers. :o

I can't pull off this style as my hair is way too slippery - the hair ties just slide right off (>(oo)<)`

I can't stand these. All of the bands make my ponytail too stiff. It looks really good on the OP though! ;)

Yes, I do this sometimes, often when on the road. 4 bands down the length works well. :)

My favorite way to do this was something like french braiding, which you're suggesting in your style above. (LOVELY hair, btw)

I like it because it's quicker than braiding, and better than a ponytail for damage, but I found that I was still getting damage from it. Not as much as just about any other hair-down style, though.

It's also a great style for guys.

I did this in sixth grade when I was first learning the french braid. I remember having breakage if I didn't get the bands in just right.

I try to avoid anything ponytailed. Braiding is a more hair friendly concept.

I love how this style looks, especially with colored bands or scrunchies, however, getting multiple bands off my ponytail later;not good, healthy or fun. Scrunchies much better than bands for me.

ha, I was just thinking that too. Totally reminds me of sixth grade. Sniff. The more colors of bands you could get in there, the better!

I don't remember snapping hair back then but maybe I just didn't care that much. Now I can't even do a half up with an elastic without breaking at least a couple hairs.

Also: beautiful hair, OP!!

When I was young I always wanted to do this a la Princess Jasmine, but when I realized my hair wouldn't look quite like hers it lost its appeal to me :-P

Not often, but I band a simple nape ponytail when I want to do a self-trim. :) Generally I French braid instead; less breakage.

I have never seen the banded ponytail before but I do think the style looks nice.

Yes, I like it and wore a segmented ponytail last week :D I use small terrycloth bands to hold it and had two tiny braids in it. Actually I was inspired by Game of Thrones' Khal Drogo :o http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/20400000/Khal-Drogo-game-of-thrones-20460614-466-700.jpg

Yes I like to wear them. I can't wear a regular ponytail anymore due to severe tangling issues. And I do mean severe. A banded pony doesn't tangle at all for me. I use very small black scrunchies or black ponytail elastics. Black looks really good in blonde hair. It's kind of stiff and heavy but I like that feeling. It feels like I have a boatload more hair.

Agreed, on all counts. ;)

I think it looks really pretty, but I'd be worried about breakage wearing bands all down my length.

I used to wear my hair like that all the time when I was younger! I love it!

I used to do this after blow-drying because it calmed all the little fly-aways down. I don't like it as a style because my hair always got bunched-up looking from swinging around on my back.

My husband will wear his hair like this but I don't like it on me very much.

I tried this style a few times, it gives me a headache.

My mom and I do this a lot! It looks very Native American on us (sorry if that sounds overly stupid/offensive) and it's cute! I like doing it after washing my hair sometimes and I get very pretty, soft waves. I'm aiming for the Princess Jasmine look in the future. :p

The OP, on the other hand, has made it look very classy and beautiful. Very nice!

Love the concept, but it doesn't come across the same on bushy hair. On me, I have a "skinny" section where each elastic is, then a "GREAT BIG POOFY" section in between each elastic!

I do this with a high ponytail sometimes, but only if I have curled my hair (in a hair-friendly way of course). Then I pull the sections out a bit to make them round like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bvVvxWTEuSI/SJHGRhvDXzI/AAAAAAAAFIM/Vb7QzfAWofU/s400/pony.jpg

This, oh so much this! :)

And I don't mind it on guys, or for a very casual look on women. Me, I'd rather braid or bun.

I often wear my hair like this :)

Until I learn to braid properly I'll wear it like this mostly :)

My hair is hard to braid, so this could work for me. I think I will try with two for work today.

I do this with big scrunchies on my damp hair ... when my hair is dry it has great waves and lots of body.

Yeah, I think it looks pretty.

I still wear them once a month or so. :)

I hate the look on me, and all those hairties would break my hair off. It's also not professional enough for me to wear to work, but I have to admit, it's pretty cute on the OP!

I like the look of this but my hair is way too short to do anything like this yet.

I'm in high school and don't wear my hair like that, no.
Usually buns or side ponytails. Sometimes in a braid/side plait.

I like how they look banded on the scalp but not so much down the actual pony. I have a friend who works at a nursing home and she wears her hair that way all the time and says it keeps it from getting into everything without having to have it up.

I used to do this all the time years ago, but it's not really my taste anymore.

I wear a banded ponytail at night. It's easier for me than braiding (I have slowly recovering neuralgia in one arm and it's still a bit hard/painful to reach behind me). Gives it a nice body wave when I take it out too. I also like the "stacked ponytail" look -- I've never tried combining that and the banded pony but it looks quite nice.

Do you know what I noticed a few weeks ago? If I put my thick APL length hair into two banded ponytails, with about a band every 1-1.5 inches, and then bend it, it holds itself up. Like a cartoon character. Not sure what range of lengths/thicknesses this will work for but I might try to get a photo before my hair outgrows it.

Yep ^_^ I like it because it shows off my ever expanding length!

I do this one, mostly.

And I tried this one recently, because I can't French braid to save my life :D sorry it's so messy, I was at work and in a huge rush.
