Its suddenly very hot and warm here. And very sunny. I bought a sun hat, one of the ones with an all round brim. I want to put my hair up to stop it getting knotty and because the brim isnt that wide so the ends are still exposed. I also dont want to do a single braid, as I want to show off my hair for a birthday (outside). I have tried a bun at the nape of my neck, but it still pushes the hat up.
My outfit is quite Victorian/vintage
For large hats what styles do you use? Also, how do you protect your hair from the sun?

I have found that henna protects my hair from the sun like nothing else I've ever tried. Apparently it's a natural sunscreen for hair - I had no idea until fairly recently. As far as updos with hats, that can be a little challenging - maybe just a small covering type thing with the length in a snood?

How about a folded pony?

We need to bring back the sun hat with room for a bun inside, which then serves to anchor the hat via hatpins! Until I polish up my millinery skills, for me a low, wide bun like the cheaters' easy hairstick bun works with my sun hat.

I find a snail bun can be done very low and then the bulk of it drops lower than any of my brims and can be seen for "showing off" :p

I wear a sunbonnet, they can be found on-line. They fit any bun, hairsticks, forks, claw clips - whatever!

Gibson tucks seem to have the 'bulge' lower down, and they certainly look very Victorian-esque. Have you tried one?
