I just came across this vintage hairstyle blog. It has pics from magazines from the 40's. some styles are even long hair pics. But what I liked is that you could get creative ideas even from the short styles, well, how they looked when they were done. It started my imagination churning... I thought well, if I pin curled and left them there instead of brushing them out like the short haired girl would do, it would look pretty cool! :p

Anyway, just wanted to share the URL:

Hope it inspires your imagination too. Enjoy! :blossom:

Wow those are classic beautiful hair styles! Can't wait to have my long hair for some of those ;) I especially like the 1911 article on Hair Care. Funny how 100 years later we still follow some of those oh so simple rules :D

Thanks for sharing all the links, I enjoyed them.

I really like this 1940's style and I'm sure it could be easily adapted to long hair:

You're welcome. :)

I'm thinking since I have short bangs, that maybe I can learn to pin curl them in ways that might be a cool change of hair style. :)

These links are incredible!
I am going to book an hour at the library so the pics load faster & I have less background chatter...! :)
I really wish my Granny was still alive - I'm sure she'd have several tart comments on my hair care, and would enjoy the pictures just as much.

My favorite thing about the original links is the little section called Keeping the Hair Pretty (http://frazzledfrau.tripod.com/titanic/pretty.htm). Somehow in 1911 (a century ago!) they knew stuff that everyone subsequently forgot.

"To curl the hair with a hot iron is injurious. If your hair is straight, try to find some pretty way to dress it naturally, or use kid-curlers to give it the desired wave."

"Never tie the hair with an elastic; this breaks the hair; use, instead, a soft cotton cord or string."

Also they recommend "never should the hair be washed oftener than once in three weeks." :D

@chenille...

Thanks for the link to that wonderful article on hair care from 1911!

An excellent article! The author knew a thing or two about caring for long hair! Really made me smile!

Trying to figure out the pompadour in front - is it simply combed straight forward, then smoothed up and back?
