You could always get some clip-in hair extensions that will mimic the look of highlights without damaging your hair. :)

Think about all the money you are saving, think about the burning scalp sensation from the bleach, think about those bad sink that hurts the neck and think about your long term goal!

What is your reason for stopping?

What is your reason for stopping?
Well becuase i had highlights over dyed dark hair that went orange/yellow and i got fed up so I dyed it back dark after having highlights that were great for about 6years, my hairdresser went on maternity and so someone else did them that did it awful. Hence why I decided to stop, and dye it dark. But I keep having urge to go back blonde. Even though I am naturally dark, I think I dont know my natural colour.

So your primary reason is that you are afraid of another bad coloring job?
Basically I think you need to have a clear idea in your mind about what your goal is and then just remind yourself of that goal when the urge to dye comes back. Some people cite damage as a reason to stop coloring; others cite expense of upkeep; others just want to enjoy their virgin hair.
Still others are unable to grow healthy long hair AND keep it dyed, so even though they enjoy the color, they're willing to sacrifice it to get to the length they want.
Whatever your reason is, focus on it. :)
on the other hand, don't stop dyeing just because people here don't tend to favor it.

Yes, this is it exactly. As before when i was dark about 6 years ago and had the urge to go back blonde i went through about four hairdressers, I finally got to blonde when I went to Italy and my cousin seen the state of my hair and took me to a hairdresser who got it blonde, I vowed then I would never go back dark and I guess I just forgot how hard it was to go back blonde after having 6 years of great highlights. My hair was highlighted and I was a bra strap length and that was with regular cuts, not trims proper cuts through out the year. A hairdresser I am going to at the moment did a nice job a dark, best dark I have had to be honest. So maybe I will stay with her and speak to her about going blonde in maybe a year or so.

Find pictures of beautiful women with hair your color and look at them often. Remind yourself how beautiful dark hair can be.

I don't know too much about dyes but it's possible that if you had the dark brown put over hair that was alrady bleached/highlighted, the brown will fade and lighten up over time anyway. And there may be things you can do to speed it up - I know I've seen shampoos and conditioners that are designed to make your hair lighter over time, or you could use chamomile or honey? That way, even though it's a slower process, your hair might lighten to the point where bleaching it to the colour you want won't cause so much damage...

If that's what you want to do with your hair it will be difficult to change your mind about it. You could find inspirational photos of people with brown hair and think about all the damage and money you're saving yourself.
OR you could embrace the blonde and go with it. Our own FrannyG has been growing out her hair and bleaching it. She has an online blog that talks about how she minimized damage and managed to grow out her hair beautifully. Here is a link: Franny's Long Hair Styles (http://www.frannyslonghairstyles.com/haircare.htm)
Lots of luck to you! :)
